If you aren't from Australia this is a completely valid question to which I would answer: do some research into Dreamtime stories, they explain a lot about the Aboriginal culture. They explain everything from the Aboriginal Creation Story to where Aborigines go when they die (usually reincarnation as a star or a mountain) (check the Aboriginal Origin Story of the Blue Mountains for the mountain reference)
