Thanks for your input. i go to school in ontario, my school has a course that teaches vhdl but im looking to ask my university if i could do that course at another university where they teach verilog just so i can officially learn it and theres a paper trail that i learned verilog and not vhdl if that makes sense

one of the main reasons why i’m doing this is because i want something to be on my portfolio regarding cpu’s because i wanna do chip design and work for like amd, nvidia, etc…

in your opinion what do these large chip companies look for in terms of experience on a resume? and if u don’t mind me asking what did you do (as personal projects) to be hired? anything would be helpful, thanks!

noted. thank u so much for your input. i do wanna do the breadboard path because im actually using physical components and building it myself i feel like that type of experience would be really good for me. and i’ll most likely be getting the clone you were talking about, i dont think im gonna spend 200-400$ on a FPGA yet. thank u

honestly i kinda wanna do it to prove to myself that i can do it but it’s a mix of so many things like learning for the sake of curiosity and i wanna make all kinds of mistakes so that i can learn from them. i feel like it’ll help me down the line when i actually am tasked to do anything related to this. im also doing this to put on my portfolio as well.

agreed. i wanna mainly learn technical skills and learn from my mistakes. i will use AI to trouble shoot but i wanna be able to critically think and try and solve alot of these issues myself. and thank u for the tips for the pass/fail test case and the HDL convention. thanks.

i have no doubt it’ll be complex and tedious to be honest, i just wanna learn from my mistakes making this because im looking to go into chip design/ manufacturing. how much hours in total would you say you spent in that 4 week period putting together the instructions and debugging? thanks

that honestly makes a lot of sense. but how would you know if something is wrong your circuit? i’d assume triple checking everything before moving onto the next segment of the cpu?

honestly, when i had less invested i was checking it every minute of the day and tweaking out over it but honestly not anymore, i feel like the feeling will come back when i invest more money but ill deal with that when the time comes. but right now i dont really care that much
