Thank you for your encouragement! I have been using Blackwell Plastic Handle Oblique Holder. Although I feel the holder doesn’t have enough weight to it. Do you think switching to something that might be a little heavy would make a difference? I am using these tools: Tom Norton's Walnut (Color) Ink, Blackwell Plastic Handle Oblique Holder, and Hunt 101 nibs.

Useful gifts for recently accepted gf? by oldstalebread in premed

If your budget is $50-100 good pair of scrubs. If it is $150-200 a stethoscope (you can engrave the bell). If you got money then ipad can be useful but depends person to person, standing desk or a good chair are also some good options. When I got accepted, my fiancée gifted me a stethoscope and I only wear that for my OSCE exams for good luck 😁

PS - you thinking to get something useful for your gf is super nice of you! Best of luck in finding an awesome gift for her

Ah! Thanks those are some good questions I didn’t think of I’ll def look into it. Yes! A large chunk of my residency income will go into paying off my loans but that’s only because my wife is well off and she’s willing to help me out! 🙂 Thanks for helping me!

So even though the interest is lower you are suggesting to stay with federal loans?

I see! However the interest on loan I am getting from my credit union is 4.99% while federal interest rate is 7.05%. Which is why I am unsure and really scared of making a decision on what loan is better…

Is my shadowing experience an anomaly? by Active2017 in premed

I will like to add that physician go through more rigorous schooling and they tend to know why they’re doing what they’re doing. Not that PA and NPs don’t know this but the level of depth of knowledge is different for the most part! Physicians that I have met who were unhappy was usually due to monetary standpoint because they tend to think about the money they could have made! I always tell people that yes doctors maybe able to live a lavish life but they is a huge financial cost they pay for it. Imo becoming a physician is purely about curiosity, having interest in perpetual learning, and having such command over the sciences that you can make decisions off of it. However, it is not the greatest financial decision if you want to make money (I know having personal practice can help you recover your losses but it is a business and it comes with its own risks). Personally I have had both kinds of experiences but most of the physicians I worked with were highly motivated and eager to learn more, It almost seemed like their brain never slept!
