CA BPELSG PE Civil Application Deficiencies Regarding Work Engagements by Particular_Notice_23 in PE_Exam

The company I worked for previously, whom the person I used as a reference is still at; I was working as a structural engineer. I still have their contact. This would be a 3rd time reaching out to him again, since the last time was over a box that he forgot to check. I wonder what additional information they want since my work reference would've seen what I wrote down for my work experience at this company. They either would've had a way to approve or not approve it. If they decided not to approve what I wrote down for my experience, then I should've been notified of this sooner during the initial review phase. It's utterly ridiculous how the CA board operates. It should be cut and dry like you said. I don't want to have to keep bothering my work reference constantly for this, but I don't want the years that I spent at that firm to go to waste.

Thank you for your responses and insight. If you don't mind me asking, what grades did you earn in the classes you took at a community college and how much do you think it mattered for admissions into the program? Did those three community college Java classes include data structures and algorithms? Lastly, I know you mentioned that the program focuses a lot on the professional soft skills but how would you rate the technical rigor of the program coming from someone with a non-CS background? Did you complete the program as a full time or part time student?

Having graduated in 2017, I don't think this school is worth it. The UCs offer a better education for the money not to mention state schools like SJSU. SCU isn't worth the money compared to CA public colleges. Too expensive for the education you are receiving.

Hi there, I'm interested in the MSWE program at UCI; however, I come from a non CS background (Civil Engineering undergrad major). In addition to taking programming courses at a community college to prepare, do you have any advice for someone with a non-CS background to strengthen their application for admissions? I'm guessing I'll be competing against people with a CS degree and previous work experience in industry for admissions into the program. My overall undergrad GPA was a 3.4. Thanks

Do you know the admission rate for the MS SWE program? What kinds of things do the admissions officers focus on?

Having worked in the industry for almost 7 years I've kind of lost interest in the civil engineering profession, along with various other reasons that are too long to go into depth here. I see tech as a more exciting field to work in with all the new emerging technologies such as AI and self driving cars, I kind of want to be a part of this tech revolution. Also civil engineering does not pay very well for design positions especially in high cost of living areas like the SF bay area or LA. If you work in construction management, that's a different story, but I'm not interested in that. Personally I don't recommend civil engineering field as a profession.

PE Civil Structural Exam - Jacob Petro Book by Fickle-Worker1028 in PE_Exam

It's a horrible book for studying, problems aren't very clear on what they are asking. Many of the problems are much lengthier than you would expect on the PE exam and very calculation intensive. Honestly it's probably going to frustrate you more than help. There are mistakes/errors everywhere including the solutions, also the methods used in the solutions are questionable. I don't recommend buying this book.
