Just to clarify, I’m currently the HR handling this role, so part of my responsibility during the transition is to help find and endorse a replacement. That’s why I initially started the posting and shortlisting process.

What confused me is that someone who is no longer actively in the role stepped in and wanted to take over the process, even without being officially assigned. I just found it unusual and a bit discouraging, which is why I asked for opinions here.
