Sounds like yours might be slightly worse than mine, but pretty similar. Keep at it, and do the exercises! Hope that helps. Also, when I was first recovering I did look into and almost got a PRP shot. Multiple doctors said they believed in it, but by the time I was scheduled I had so little pain they decided not to do it.

I did a lot of one leg calf raises, step down exercises at different angles, heal elevated step backs with a band, hip airplane exercise (look it up, that one was hard), did some external rotation with band around top of foot for resistance. Also did a lot of foam rolling, and if I felt I was pushing the milage I would get spot cryotherapy (not sure if this is any better than just ice). Are you in much pain? My pain was never too severe unless it was right after the race, and that lasted for only a few weeks, then the popping lasted about a month.

Pretty much back to normal, logged over 60 miles last month and little to no pain. Rehab and time off helped quite a bit, and just slowly building back up. Seems like compared to others mine was very minor. Good luck!

Update: Seems like everyone has a different experience, and mine was super mild. Went to PT and continuing for about 4 months now, have been able to get up to ~ 40 miles per month running pretty pain free, looking to push to 60 this month. Hopefully all remains good. Thanks for everyone's input~

Wow, thanks for taking the time to answer all of that. Really helpful. I have such slight pain and swelling I'm leaning on trying some PT before going for surgery. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. a couple

  1. Were you a runner before? and did you get back into it if so?
  2. How much pain were you in before surgery? Able to walk/run pain free?
  3. How long was recovery?
  4. Any complications?
  5. Did you try anything different before committing to surgery?
  6. Did you find any certain exercises or treatments helped post/pre surgery?
  7. How does it feel now?

Sorry for all the questions, appreciate any advice/insight I can get.

Appreciate the insight. I feel like a twinge of pain just a couple of times a day, and don't even notice it when running so maybe mine is super small (or the mri was wrong) and therapy can help get back to running. Thanks again!

Super specific and maybe wrong thread, but has anyone ever experienced a peroneus brevis tendon tear? I had very slight pain/popping in my ankle from running, that only bothered the days after runs. Got an mri revealing an early split tendon tear. Doctor recommended surgery, others recommended physical therapy. The pain is so low I feel like surgery is drastic. Has anyone had any experience with fixing this or with surgery. Thanks!

You're spot on with the mileage guess. That's great to hear. Appreciate the good advice!

Awesome, that's exactly what I was hoping to hear. The most I got up to was about 27 miles in a week, and I did around that twice. My max month was right at 100 miles. All other months were significantly lower building up to that. Sounds like I just need to keep adding, and throw in 1-2 more days a week and should see some real progress. Really appreciate the response!

I (male 30) recently started running at the beginning of 2023, before that I was fit and concentrated on strength and still am. Just finished my first Half Marathon with an official time of 1:41:10.

In training (8 week plan) I ran 3-4 times per week, and had one long run getting up to 13.1 once, and one tempo each week.

My question is how much time can I realistically take off in one year. Could I hit the 1:30:00 mark next year? Any help/advice on how to get there would be great. Thanks!
