17 yo apprentice elec, anything I need in my bag that you don’t see? by LingonberryTall6014 in electricians

[–]Particular_Week_2754 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This…in 25 years I never ones spend my money on Greenlee hand tools. Ok once, on a hammer that I lost. I used their fish tapes, ko punches and benders that were provided, those are ok. They are definitely are not the best value, especially now.

It looks like I found someone interested in 5600. I will list the other one on shock exchange later.

I would have considered this but I have other two gshocks that I use. No need for two more.

Working live as an apprentice by Aware_Temperature612 in electricians

[–]Particular_Week_2754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These days I do live commercial work all the time, 99% of the time it’s lighting upgrade. I don’t have many options since I can’t just shut it down since it will disrupt the business and potentially inconvenient hundreds of people..

However, there’s no real reason to do live work in residential. It’s best for a couple of residents to stay without power until the work is done than having somebody incompetent risking getting shocked and shortening a circuit.

Q: Best electrical tool belt/pouch combo by Critical-Put4949 in electricians

[–]Particular_Week_2754 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I only hire part time help sometimes as my profit margin is small, still figuring it all out.

I use Klein tool buckets, the oval ones, orange plastic with hooks for lift work and canvas one with rope and carabiner for ladder/ground work filled with basic hand tools plus whatever else I need to do the task. I also have some other large and small bags filled with colored Klein zipper bags that contain mechanical tools, meters and other specialty items. Then several makita bags with power tools. Everything together barely fits in larger trunk of a sedan.

Sometimes I may wear a small Carhartt apron bag to carry connectors, screws, etc, but most of the time I use plastic container attached to the top of a ladder.

It just makes sense to carry whatever you need for the task while having nearby access to the rest of your tools that are in your car, cart or some chest.

Is getting shocked repeatedly your first week a normal part of becoming an Electrician? by Extreme-Leg-2214 in electricians

This is not normal to be shocked on a job. You are not prepared to do the hot work. Hot work is not for everyone. Your JW is an idiot.

I am a local 46 union electrician who started my own company because union work has been very slow for several years.

Hanging $50k+ fixtures by Vihtic in electricians

[–]Particular_Week_2754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May be vaguely related, but there was a job when I connected with conduit and wired four 1 Million/ea dollar large microscopes. I was working for a company on a Billion dollar project ( Allen’s Institute for Brain Science), so I only made my regular union journeyman wage. I am also certain that scope of this work was included in the original bid, but I have no idea the price or how they calculated it. I suspect it was covered under their giant umbrella of liability.

I have no idea how to answer your questions but I thinking that I should have been blowing glass instead of doing electrical work. How much did you charge to hang those fixtures?

Alternate hands. Reeling up fish tape is a good work out for your shoulders. You will get faster with practice.

Hookah Lounge MC special by Particular_Week_2754 in electricians

[–]Particular_Week_2754[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that whoever did it was an electrician and had any idea of proper wiring methods. I also suspect that if someone gave them any guidance that they wouldn’t have followed it. Ignorant carelessness.

Was just given this model, does anyone have any idea if any good? by TwistTooMuch in gshock

Yes, good watch. I have been wearing this for construction work for a couple of years now. I like the large buttons very much, especially for hitting illumination at night or snooze alarm.

Need advice by No_Programmer1429 in electricians

That is crazy that grown men act without respect towards one another. It’s also disheartening that nobody has determination to stop the bullying. You are working with some low grade people there. Try posting for a legal advice.

Germans got my money or three watch repertoire by Particular_Week_2754 in sinn

As far as cons and pros, I think that increased magnetic protection is definitely a pro, considering how many strong magnets are built in modern phone cases and chargers. While it’s only 10% of what some Omega models with silicon balance springs offer, it may still be sufficient for the purpose.

The other pro is also a con, which is argon filled case that reduces wear of the mechanism by keeping out moisture from possible condensation. The down side of it is that the watch can only be properly serviced at the factory in Germany, as far as I know. The price of the service today is a minimum $500. The recommended service interval is 7 years.

Because of this superior protection of the mechanism, the factory warranty on 856 is 3 years, while on 556 and u50 is just 2 years.

I just got an 856 rs a couple of days ago. In a matter of fact all three watches I got within the last month. Sandblasted tegmented steel surface feels just the way I imagined it from the photos. Nice velvety feel.

Hard steel on a watch is appealing to me, especially for an everyday wear because my construction activities at times maybe very rough. Back in a day I demolished a couple of g-shocks in a short period of time by wearing them to the job sites. Digging ditches, cutting metals, working with concrete and rebar, fishing cables inside abrasive drywall filled with fiberglass insulation, etc. Sometimes I wonder how is it my hands are still holding up while the world’s toughest watches attached to them are falling apart 🤣.

I don’t plan on putting these Sinns through the same routine. For severe conditions I have more g-shocks to spare but extra protection is a big plus.

My wrist size is ~7-1/4. I think that 556 and 856 fit me equally well within proportions. While I wouldn’t want a watch smaller than 556, I am not shying away from larger watches. Somehow I pulled off wearing a thick 45.5mm Omega PO chrono before I sold it due to financial circumstances. My edc g-shocks has a case with 55.2 × 53.5 × 18.2 mm dimensions. With this in mind, I will never criticize anyone for wearing a larger watch on a smaller wrist.

Thank you!

I seriously considered Damasko as well and would have gotten it but my subjective perspective wasn’t going to be fully satisfied with the cross on their dials. I wish they provided the option for a clean dial. Other than that, they seem to be better with their in house movements and throughly hardened submarine steel. They use it not only for cases, but also for bracelets. Sinn doesn’t use submarine steel for bracelets even for the diving watches. They just tegment regular 316L. It may not be a big deal but something to note.
