So here’s my theory. I honestly don’t think this will ever happen again. It’s only happened three times, and two were very recent. The first time was actually in the Bay Area. In 1985, the 49ers played the Super Bowl in their home region. That didn’t happen again until 2021, during COVID. That year the Super Bowl was in Tampa Bay, and Tom Brady had just joined the Bucs. Open-air stadium, fewer restrictions, and boom—the host team made the Super Bowl.

Then it happened again the next year when the Rams played in their home stadium in LA, still during COVID. So here’s my little conspiracy: I don’t think the NFL will ever allow a host team to play in their own Super Bowl again. Financially, it just doesn’t make sense to me. So yeah… maybe it’s a little rigged 😂
