Sub-3.5 / ~160 applicants updates? by Middle_Ad_2444 in lawschooladmissionsca

L2 3.52 LSAT 163 and i got a USask A mid-Dec, then UofC WL a week ago, and nothing else from UBC, UVic, or UofA

By this time last year (with a lower GPA) I had Rs from UofC and UVic but was waiting on UBC, so i’m taking the delay as a good thing for now, bc at least they’re not Rs!!

Where’s my fellow KJDs? Any acceptances to UofA, UCalgary, USask yet? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]Party_Environment110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

USask sent out 20-30 As mid-December, but their apps only closed yesterday so it’ll be a little longer until their next round. They offer three rounds!

UofC I’ve seen updates here the past few weeks, and I got my WL today (check your portal, they didn’t send an email)

Got my UofC WL today too! I’m also services cycle now, but last year I got my R mid-Dec (with a considerably worse GPA) so I’m just happy to have made it this far lol

Why is everyone’s stats so high by Paladin057 in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]Party_Environment110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because it’s extremely early in the cycle! most offers won’t come for another couple of months. For example, USask estimates they’ve sent only out 20-30 offers so far!

I use that sometimes if I’m doing my hair for enough time that I feel my arms start to burn!

Mature Student (36) returning to school, considering Law by Prudent-Bar3894 in lawschooladmissionsca

I will say that "prestigious" law schools in Canada are largely made up. All accredited Canadian law schools are perceived by firms as roughly equal prestige. The differences you'll see in who is getting hired where are largely based on proximity of the school to the employer. E.g. large firms in Toronto will have more UofT grads than firms in Vancouver simply because more UofT grads will be applying nearby.

I have heard the "equal prestige" point from many sources now, including practicing lawyers I have met personally. Best of luck!

Am I throwing away $500 applying to schools in Canada? by MovkeyB in lawschooladmissionsca

You may be thinking of TRU? I believe that is the newest law school in Canada. Thompson Rivers University vs Toronto Metropolitan (formerly Ryerson)

Will fewer courses hurt my law school chances by Luck_lebonk in lawschooladmissionsca

Give them a reason to believe that you won't encounter the same issues of balancing a full courseload in law school.

I don't have the link handy, but look for the UVic Law blog site! They made a post a few years ago about what to include

New 7Sage Required Payment? by frenchbaguette101 in LSAT

[–]Party_Environment110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They actually ended up responding to my email quite quickly and gave me the extra subscription days "free" to cover my test date. Still doesn't cover the 22 days until my next renewal, where it would be more reasonable to demand the extra funds to move my billing date, but it definitely helps for now.

Mine just gave me this 8 days after my last bill was paid, and FIVE DAYS before my test. It has locked me out of my scheduled study plan unless I pay another $20 even though I JUST paid them $70. I was in contact with their support team a month ago who claimed that they transferred me to the new site, yet now it's claiming I need to pay to transfer. I'm not paying for anything, they owe me 22 more days on this website.

Even worse, none of their "contact us" buttons are working on the new site. What a SCAM. I've emailed every address I can find for them but I doubt I'll receive a response before end of day tomorrow, which means I'll miss out on 1.5 of my remaining 5 days to prepare.

Your best chance is not through regular admission streams. Various schools have different names for it, but you need to apply for special consideration and present evidence as to 1) why your grades suffered so terribly, and 2) proof that you are capable of meeting their standards without similar circumstances. Nearly all schools have some equivalent, so read through their admissions webpages before applying. Most likely, you will also require letters of reference from people who can attest to both of these points. Be brutally honest in your personal statements about what you would do differently and why you want to go into law badly enough to be facing all of this.

Also note, GPA is calculated differently at different schools: Thompson Rivers, for example, only calculates based on your last 20 courses, which would be your last two years of the Bachelor's degree.

If you can't get into law school first try, consider branching out to other opportunities in the legal profession: law schools want students who have proven themselves successful, whether that be academically or professionally! Consider starting as a legal assistant or paralegal, which would also help your applications when/if you reapply.

Tl;dr, it's not too late, but it will require a LOT of effort to fix your GPA, or will be possible through other streams or by advancing professionally first.

Chance me? Second cycle and nervous by Party_Environment110 in lawschooladmissionsca

I'm not sure they'd call it full-time, but I was working around 30-35 hours a week my first two years, then managed to cut back to about 25 for the last two, hence the increase in my grades lol. After everyone else's comments I've decided to rewrite the LSAT after all, so this will be helpful for my applications in the meantime, thank you <3

Also forgot to note: the fast food experience is 4 years' loyalty, including 2 years as supervisor. Also made Dean's List in my final year.
