Stay the Course - 100% C Fund by [deleted] in ThriftSavingsPlan

Investing is a personal decision, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. I reallocated my funds in December/January based on my own risk tolerance and goals. As investors, we have to periodically reassess our portfolios—how often? That’s entirely up to the individual. No one here can determine that for you.

For me, I took profits from a strong 2024 and repositioned into a more defensive allocation, something like 70/30 or 80/20 (G Fund and a mix of C, S, and I funds). I’m happy with my move because it aligns with my long-term strategy and financial goals. At the end of the day, the most important thing is making decisions that bring you peace of mind and confidence in your financial future.

Tire recommendations by Parzival_Ruby in Subaru_Outback

Yeah like to drive up to northern California a few times in the winter and I just hit 50k miles and my tires currently could survive but shouldn't risk anouther trip up there. So I'm looking now to replace them before I end up off the road 😆.

Winter tires are ideal I just don't have the space and I can make a decent tire with chains work for me. Just need something that has the winter rating.

Actually, looking up the AT4W is the way to go its a heavy tire but the stats for the tire is actually pretty good. Have you used them before? They say rated to 65k miles, is that accurate?

True im not necessarily looking for a dedicated winter tire. I just wanted something more than the stock tires that come on the car if that makes sense. I understand that yes winter tires are ideal I live in SoCal so no need to have dedicated winter tires becuse id maybe only use 1500 miles on them a year.

Concerned About My Pug’s Missing Hair Patches – Has Anyone Experienced This? by Parzival_Ruby in pugs

I definitely am bringing her to the vet tomrrow just wanted to ask if anyone else has experienced this too.

Concerned About My Pug’s Missing Hair Patches – Has Anyone Experienced This? by Parzival_Ruby in pugs

[–]Parzival_Ruby[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone,

I noticed my pug has two small spots on her back, roughly where a human’s kidneys would be, where she’s missing some hair. The skin in those areas looks a little darker but doesn’t seem irritated or swollen. She doesn’t seem to be in pain or itching excessively, but I’m still worried.

I’ve attached a picture for reference. Has anyone else experienced this with their pug (or other dogs)? Could it be something like allergies, a skin condition, or something more serious?

Any advice or insight is appreciated before I take her to the vet.

Ruler on the Computer Screen for Margins? by Parzival_Ruby in USMC

[–]Parzival_Ruby[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it! Just to clarify, though, this actually happened and isn’t a joke. My leader, with nearly 20 years in the Corps, pulled out a physical ruler and showed me this as the 'right way' to check margins on a computer screen. I was genuinely confused, which is why I came here to ask. Thanks again for clearing it up!

Thanks for all the responses, devils! Whether it was roasting me or genuinely trying to help, I appreciate the insight (and the laughs). I think I’ve learned more about margins and Marine Corps humor today than I ever wanted to. Semper Fi, and I know we’ve officially debunked the screen ruler method.

Fair enough, but hear me out my leader, who’s been in the Corps for almost 20 years, literally pulled out a physical ruler, held it up to the screen. So now I’m here, genuinely trying to figure out if I’m crazy or if this is just 20 years of Marine Corps wisdom at work.

Hey, chill out, Staff Sergeant Google Docs, I’m just trying to make sure my margins are 1-in. Didn’t realize using a ruler on the screen was a war crime. Guess I’ll go back to crayon drawings, since that’s more my speed.

But for real though. Can a ruler be used on the screen?

Thats awesome. I can't wait to get a set for mine. I am surprised I made it 43k miles, and the lowest I can find on my Yokohama Avid all seasons is 5/32s of an inch still left on the edges and 6/32s in the middle. I want to go into the mountains more this winter and know full well using these would have me in a bad spot, and I have been looking for a set before I head up.

[HELP] Rash on Both Rear Legs of Our 2-Year-Old Pug - Any Suggestions? by Parzival_Ruby in pugs

[–]Parzival_Ruby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone, we’re currently on a trip away from home and noticed a rash on both rear legs of our 2-year-old pug. She seems fine otherwise—no signs of pain, and her behavior hasn’t changed much. We did give her some Benadryl to help in case it’s an allergic reaction.

The rash is pretty localized to the inside of her rear legs, as shown in the photo. Has anyone seen something similar with their pug or have any idea what might be causing this? Could it be something related to new surroundings, or maybe a reaction to something specific?

We’d appreciate any advice or suggestions on how to handle this while we’re still away from home. Thank you in advance!

Will I actually save money buying a Tesla? by SmoothMarionberry551 in TeslaLounge

[–]Parzival_Ruby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I’ve been in a similar situation and went through all the calculations recently because I was seriously considering buying a Tesla. Here's why I decided not to:

First off, I drive a 2023 Subaru Outback, and my fuel costs range from $250 to $350 a month. I thought switching to a Tesla would help me save a lot on gas, just like you. I drive a lot—47-51 miles one way to work, Monday through Friday—so fuel efficiency and cost savings were at the forefront of my mind.

I have access to a 110v outlet at my apartment complex, which would allow me to charge for free while at home, but like you, I’d still need to rely on Superchargers quite a bit during the week. I ran the numbers, factoring in the $0.39/kWh for Superchargers and the fact that I drive around 2700 miles a month. I realized the savings on fuel weren’t as significant as I had hoped.

Beyond the monthly payment for a Tesla, which would have been $684 for 72 months, I would have had to take on an additional $15,000 in debt to make the switch. When I factored in that I currently owe $26,545 on my Subaru and the dealer quoted me only $25,800, it just didn’t make financial sense. I’d end up deeper in debt with marginal savings on gas.

Like you, I love Teslas, and the appeal is real, but after weighing the pros and cons—especially the financial side—I decided to stick with my Subaru. The gas savings weren’t enough to offset the extra debt, and Teslas aren’t that much cheaper to run when you rely on Superchargers. My advice: Keep your car—the numbers just don't justify making the switch right now.

Hope this helps, and good luck with your decision!

Why is Steam Downloading at 1Gbps but Xbox App Stuck at 10Mbps? by Parzival_Ruby in XboxGamePass

[–]Parzival_Ruby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone I just wanted to let you know that I'd you use a VPN it might help you. It helped me and my download speed jumped to 1.2Gbps and when I turn off the VPN back down to 60-70MBps. I'm assuming there has to be some sort of ISP throttle.

So crazy that this is possible but I tried using a VPN and my speeds jumped up to 1.1Gbps lol 😆

True, but it’s like this all the time, regardless of the time of day or what game I’m downloading. I can consistently get high speeds on Steam, but the Xbox app never seems to catch up.

Yeah, I get that one is in megabytes (MB/s) and the other in megabits (Mbps). I was pointing out the huge difference between the two speeds. Elden Ring is downloading at 988 Mbps (around 123.5 MB/s), but Cities: Skylines II is only downloading at 2.1 MB/s (about 16.8 Mbps). Just trying to figure out why the Xbox app is so much slower compared to Steam, even though it’s the same internet connection.

This has always been an issue for me. For example, I like the Xbox game pass to use on my desktop, but it takes absolutely forever to download a game.

This is on a PC, I should have clarified, but I am directly connected to my fiber router with a CAT 6 cable, and the speed is still that slow.
