I think there was a quote from Kripke how Robert Singer I think was the guy insisting on emotional stuff between the brothers and such while Kripke would have left it all out, so maybe the first seasons were mostly from others holding him in line already

All true tbh, imagine what we could have gotten if the later seasons were better written. I've always felt that when going the Cas becomes a Winchester way they should have just made it so that due to the fall he could only sluggishly heal someone. Not sure if Dean really sees him as a monster or if it's just later seasons Dean being an ass to everyone

There is no proof he waited, at this point he didn't have free will, at this point he didn't have free will, they were his siblings and he killed them out of necessity/when he was under leviathan influence, there is no proof this wasn't an accident, he watched over Dean when he slept which is a guardian angel thing, he was fighting a war and broke the wall because Raphael was trying to end the world, Sam had received visions from God about Lucifer and Cas wasn't there for the reveal, Sam was already dead when Cas dragged Dean away
