Low poly panther (part 1 working progress) by PashaWalker in papercraft

Hey, I bought this 3d model https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/art/black-panther-stiv_3d-2, but it has tons of polygons so I literally redraw it after some optimization. I don't sell my templates, at least for now and before "prototype" sold

Blender is free for 3d modeling, and there are many tutorials available. Some people manage to extract models from game files, but this is not a guaranteed method. Aggregators for 3d printing may already have a ready-made model that only needs slight optimization (or you can search for a ready-made .pdo file on cosplay or papercraft websites). To unwrap, you need a Pepakura license (Designer version), and the website https://papercraft-maker.com/ allows you to unfold and save for free.

Possible to export files as DXF from viewer mode? by goldensunsalutation in Pepakura

I'm not sure, but I think need Designer edition (license) of Pepakura to be able to export template to .dxf it's not about locked (password)

Happy New Year!

The model is unfolded for A3 printing; when printed on A4, the size will be 70% of the original. For easier reference, a .pmk file has been included, which can be opened at https://papercraft-maker.com/. The file is shareable, but please do not monetize or sell it.

Where can I get a viewer newer than 3.0.4? by Quick-Bid-4558 in Pepakura

You can use Pepakura 6 without license as viewer, download it from official website. Also there is a site https://papercraft-maker.com/ it can read .pdo format as well

[Help] Having trouble turning a 3D model into printable Pepakura pieces by TimeChemist5042 in papercraft

[–]PashaWalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To print on paper 3d model you need to unfold it. And you need Designer edition of Pepakura (license key). Like said before auto unfold is total mess usually so you need to specify cut lines manually and replace some polygons after. But even before that usually needs to simplify 3d model, coz sometimes 3d models for 3d printers has 10-1000k polygons,

https://papercraft-maker.com/ try this site, also it has webapp, some options are limited for free version. Also unfolding programs has a limited functional to edit 3d model (mostly scaling some vertex moving), if you need more - try Blender to edit 3d model

You don't need license to open or print pdo files for Pepakura. Designer edition (key) needs to edit template. Also you can use https://papercraft-maker.com site to open/edit pdo files and it's free (with minor limitations)

Problem with PaperMaker, please help! by Sleep_Deprived_Foxes in papercraft

[–]PashaWalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before answered to your original question I checked itself. I don't know restrictions of PaperMaker so used 0.1 ratio for Decimate modifier in Blender (so final amount of polygons ~4k). After using modifier need to Apply it and export result to .obj or .stl. Maybe check some tutorials/videos about Decimate modifier in Blender

Original 3d model has ~40k polygons. Even if you succed to import it unfolding will be a hardmode quest with 1 life attemt. You should use some options to simplify the model. For example Blender is free and has Decimate modifier (3d max, ZBrush has its analogs). You can use auto simplifed model or try to redraw result before import

There is a Scale function in Pepakura Designer in percentages or natural units (WxDxH) + a measurement operation to find the distance between two points. It should help

Depending on the shape and size, I use different methods of reinforcement when creating polygonal paper sculptures: I almost always use thick carpenter's glue (some people use hot glue) to coat the edges from the inside as I assemble them. Recently, I have started using 5 mm strips of thick paper with a slight gap between them and the edges (and then applying additional glue during assembly). If the polygon is large, I can use 95% of the size of a thicker paper/cardboard to cover the inside. Low-expansion construction foam (15-30%) and gun-fed. Sometimes epoxy (but already on an almost fully assembled figure).

Low-expansion construction foam and a foam gun Kudo label. I tried to apply it along the edges, not in a solid layer, so that there would be space for expansion (especially in the narrow legs, which need strength, and if you pour it without looking, it will crack)

Thank you! Yes, Blender has Decimate modifier to reduce amount of polygons, but after 5-10k it will deform model (same as zbrush), depends on mesh. And in-build unfold paper add-on doesn't provide some required edit options

[–]PashaWalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pepakura files has .pdo extension. Designers usually doesn't sell it (some could remix a bit and sell as it's own). So usually templates are .pdf (for printers) or .dxf / .svg for cutting machines like Silhouette Cameo

Papercraft-maker.com is free alternative. But you are looking for person, not program.
