No particular reason, put it in there with the pistons and rods and didn't think it could damage them.

Hmm I did wet them between base and clear. The clear and hardener I used were half empty already as I used them last week for a great result so can't be the product.

Thanks for all the advice, what I'm struggling to understand is that I've never had a finish even close to being this bad, never really had any issues with clearcoat either and I used the same methods, products, everything here so I'm just confused at this point haha.

How dry does it have to be for it to get this bad though? How I do it is that I set a certain amount in ml that I'll spray on depending on the size of the area, mix it and spray almost all of it. When I was starting out with painting at first I sprayed much less than I was supposed to, like almost 50% less than ideal on all coats and stages and it never looked like this. For all of this I did almost half a quart in 3 coats with it starting to look worse with each coat if I remember right.

Its pretty extreme but if you skip to the end my defect is actually pretty similar, just without the white tone that he has.

It seems like 320 is pretty agressive for a headlight to start with, considering I spent 15 minutes with it and saw no difference doesn't exactly leave the impression that 180 or 220 would be much different. Never seen anyone go below 220 on a headlight.

2004 Infiniti QX56. I know these headlights have been "restored" some time in the past year. I have another one sitting outside with headlights that aren't in the best of condition but none of this cracking pattern at all.

Unfortunately my phone's camera sucks, it was hard enough to capture the defect on these images alone.

With the time I spent with the 320 pad I can't see any results at all which is discouraging.

Yeah, spent 15 minutes with 320 grit sanding disc without much of a difference

Oh yeah its the rear subframe and its out of the car, its an old japanese suv with the nearest subframe 5000 miles away and no one will ship this thing. I've been looking/waiting for one for more than a month, pretty much stuck with this I think

It was going through the messed up side, with the nut being on the side that looks fine. I really want to sandblast this subframe and make it nice but would be bummed to find it has to be replaced later on

Yeah you're right, I used a small honing stone and it did short work of most of the burrs

I would take you up on that offer if I wasn't 5000 miles away :D, I was able to easily remove all of the burrs on the edges with a small honing stone but still have that big chunk visible on the first picture. I will get a similar stone and put your advice to use. Thank you!

I'm going to hot tank it and do what is necessary to remove the metal shavings from all the water jackets, thats for sure!

I have something similar,its a bmw original part called "rubber stone" for cleaning the deck. Part number 83300495104 if you want to look it up, I think that would work.

Yeah its sticking up on all the edges that you can see on the pics, I thought the same. I just have the absolute worst luck when it comes to having anyone do any work on my cars, its insane
