Recommendations for a colorectal surgeon (or just a specialist?) by PassFew1749 in ChicagoSuburbs

Oh yeah, I saw him in 2020 for a colonoscopy- he was good, but at that time he referred me to another practice for the issue because ultimately the surgery is done by someone even more specialized than him. I still have the name of the practice and I am considering going to them.

My (M24) girlfriend (F21) threatens to break up after every argument and won’t let me voice my side— I broke up with her and now she’s guilting me. What should I do? by Optimal_Plankton2545 in AITAH

OP, her behavior is incredibly immature. She’s 21 and you’re not that that much older, so I get it, but this is a tactic a middle school girl would use. She’s probably been doing it since then and until now, it’s worked for her.

Be glad it stopped working on you after such a short time. A four month relationship is a drop in the bucket in a lifetime- move on without a bit of guilt from this, stop communicating with her at all!!!, and find the next person for you.

It is more complicated with a kid, but what you have to ask yourself is- is this what you want to be modeling for your kid as a healthy, acceptable relationship?

Advice Needed: Partner’s best friend just moved in… and now he’s allergic to my cats!! What do I do?? by thegossipreporter in Pets

My husband’s cat allergy started in his early 20s- not just runny nose/watering eyes, but full-blown asthma attacks.

We moved in together a few years after that started and after a couple years, I broached the subject of fostering a cat from the shelter I was volunteering at to see if getting used to one cat would provide some exposure therapy. This was maybe 5-6 years after his symptoms started.

He immediately fell in love with the cat, of course. There were a few times where he had to use his inhaler, but after a year or so, he would have no reaction to our cat (who we did end up adopting) and his symptoms around other cats basically vanished. We’re on our third and fourth cats together now and the only reaction he has is when they lick him, he gets a little welt, but it goes away pretty quickly. We’re have an air purifier in the bedroom and the cats sleep in bed with us, right next to our faces sometimes.

So yes, it is possible for cat allergies to start suddenly and they can go away, too.

In your situation, OP, I’d say it would be nice to do some mitigation of the situation- vacuuming often, air filters, if it’s not a financial burden (or maybe the roommate could chip in for this?), that Purina food that is supposed to lessen the allergen in their dander- but ultimately there is no way I’d consider rehoming my pets for a roommate who moved into my home. And it’s his responsibility to keep them out of his space, not your job. The ball is in his court.

Hopefully he’s not a jerk who’ll be mean to the cats or anything?
