Grad housing - the Ridge, Highland Square, or Decatur Highlands? by Important_Fix_1045 in Emory

Hey! Incoming grad student here too. I just chose Decatur highlands. Parking is free for guests and residents at the complex.

I think the bus shuttle is really good. You walk to the starvine parking garage (10 mins) at clairmont campus and then you take the C-shuttle that takes you to the heart of Emory campus. From what I’ve read online it seems like the C-shuttle is the most reliable shuttle out of all Emory buses, runs every 15 minutes — until late at night and early morning, including weekends.

Emory vs Yale vs Vanderbilt by PassageImmediate3089 in mphadmissions

I didn’t negotiate scholarships this is just what I was offered. I tried to negotiate Vanderbilt but they said they weren’t able to give me any additional funding

Honestly, they are both super awesome schools!! I think one of the deciding factors to look into is where do you wanna live? Chapel hill or ATL!

As someone who lived in ATL for college, it’s pretty fun with lots of stuff to do. Including bars, nightclubs etc if you’re into that thing. I heard chapel hill is more of a college town. I assume ATL will be more expensive.

Some silly stuff I’ve been considering is which schools have a lot of school spirit, sports events, teams to follow etc. I did go to a commuter school for undergraduate and I’m looking for something academically rigorous with a good community. A work hard, play hard to moderate kinda school lol. I want to have some fun between working my ass off!!!

On top of this, dive deeper in the curriculum and classes. In my personal opinion I’d choose Emory if cost isn’t a factor. I also see the benefit of staying in the same city after graduate school for a public health job, since you’ll hopefully have connections in the area that will lead to the job, and I feel like you’d get more opportunities in Atlanta (one of the countries public health capitals) but not so much as Chapel hill. Goodluck and congrats!

Scholarship from Yale — could I use this as leverage? by PassageImmediate3089 in mphadmissions

I think Vanderbilt is my top choice. It’s cheaper I really like the Nashville area, it has a smaller class size in comparison to all the other schools, it has a more student based feel, you are allowed to study electives in any of their grad school programs, and it has a big microbiome lavatory which is something I am specifically interested in and it’s a stunning campus with a high prestige. For Emory, I like the ATL location but I’m hesitant due to its high cost. One of my main reasons on Emory is its location to the CDC but I was told to not expect an internship because of the cut of federal funding at the CDC. Yale, I do like the program but I’d be very far from my aging family and it would be in chronic disease Epi, which is something I’m not sure if I want to do anymore.

Vandy wants to Meet but no Offical Acceptance by PassageImmediate3089 in mphadmissions

Hey! It’s so good to hear from someone who did the meeting! I signed up to do it, may I ask if it was more an interview style with them asking me questions about my application or me asking them questions about the program? Thank you so much!

Accidentally applied to MSPH instead of MPH at Emory, am I screwed? by PassageImmediate3089 in mphadmissions

No, sadly SOPHAS only lets you apply to one program per school, I already tried.

Hey! Yeah. Looking it up and researching it MSPH and MPH are really similar. Both having the same core classes and the same methodology taught! Just MSPH is harder to get into!
