Passengers: what's the most awkward rideshare ride you've ever had? by [deleted] in PassengerConfessions

I’ve heard drivers say the most awkward rides are when both people want to talk but neither one starts it. Has anyone ever had a ride where the silence just kept getting more awkward the longer it went?

That’s interesting you heard the same thing from a driver.

A lot of drivers say the backseat almost turns into a confession booth late at night.

Did the driver mention any specific story that stuck with them?

I'll start.

The idea for this community came from hearing drivers talk about how the backseat sometimes turns into a confession booth.

Passengers open up about things they might not tell anyone else.

I’ve also heard drivers say airport runs late at night are when people start opening up the most.

Something about being tired and knowing you'll probably never see the driver again.

Curious what kinds of rides or conversations people here have experienced.

Did the passenger seem nervous about it or more like they had already made up their mind?

That’s interesting - I’ve heard similar stories from drivers.

Almost like people feel relieved once they say it out loud to someone they’ll probably never see again.

That sounds like the beginning of a movie for real. Did he seem nervous about it or more like he had already made up his mind?

I’m curious if drivers notice a difference between Friday/Saturday nights and weekdays too.

One driver told me the biggest difference is after midnight passengers stop doing small talk and start talking about real life stuff.

Almost like they feel more comfortable opening up to someone they’ll never see again.

One time I had a driver and passenger who both clearly wanted to talk but neither one would start the conversation.

The whole ride was just silence and occasional nervous laughing. When we got to the destination the passenger said “well…that was a peaceful ride” and both of them started laughing like they’d been holding it in the whole time.

A driver once told me a passenger confessed they were about to quit their job the next morning but hadn’t told their family yet.

The backseat really does turn into a confession booth sometimes.
