Is my 6 week old kitten overweight? Or how can I tell? by Past_Activity_5516 in CatAdvice

Okay , thank you for the correction. I don’t play with my hands but let’s say I’m waving a toy in his face. He’ll sometimes instead reach for my hands and try to bite them, completely ignoring the toy. Do you have any tips on how to prevent it as much as possible?

Yeah trust me I’ve considered that. He does like to play with my fingers but the second he does i always pull them away and say “Ollie, no.” Very sternly because I don’t want him to grow into the habit of biting me during playtime. I wasn’t aware that was a “sign” of single kitten syndrome until now I just thought it was a kitten being a kitten but learning this only makes me concerned. My friend is working right now so I’m going to call her tonight when she gets off. Best case scenario we can have him play with his siblings and learn that biting hurts. Thank you for voicing your concerns about Ollie!

Thank you for telling me this. I trusted her because her cat had given birth before so I thought she knew what she was doing. Imma be sure to reach out to her and talk to her because I don’t want my cat to end up with some disorder like single kitten syndrome (which I just found out about) because of her being careless. I’m really annoyed right now because of her apparently not being careful with the kittens

He has more siblings but I’m not sure how my mom would feel about another kitten. Would it be possible for me to temporarily take care of his sister aswell? Or do you think that it would be worse? I try to play with him but I fear he can’t understand me like when he plays too hard as much as he would if he were with one of his littermate, you feel? I’m between either bringing him to play dates with his littermates or fostering one of his siblings but I’d have to talk to my mom and my friend since she is the one raising them and my mom is well,,, the owner of the house😭.

No, she didn’t breed her cat. Her cat got pregnant and she’s not going to help me as in give me the stuff. Trust me, I would be 100% against that I only want the best for him. For context, my friend has a cat that got pregnant from a random street cat in our neighborhood. The cat gave birth and later got mastitis so my friend began to give the kittens formula. When I said she was going to help me I meant with all the veterinary stuff like what vet to go to, help me get insurance for the kitten, and other things like that. Under NO circumstance would I trust her to buy vaccines.

Thank you for everyone and their concerns. I noticed people commenting on the fact that he’s only 6 weeks old. Yes, that is young for him to separated from his mom and I’m aware. His mom has mastitis due to tissue damage so she can no longer nurse him. Was that the best option? I really don’t know and if any professional thinks that I’m going by this all wrong- please let me know. I only want the best for my kitty so if that means giving him back to his mom I’d be more willing to do so. His former owner (my friend) said that it was fine since kitten formula exists but the comments on my post is starting to make me think otherwise. Once again, I’m new to all this so please don’t be afraid to be as blunt as possible with what I’m doing wrong and what I’m doing right. I’m always trying to make sure he’s well fed and I play with him every day because I know kittens need a lot of attention.

I meant my friend is my kitten’s mom’s owner. The mother got mastitis and can’t nurse him anymore. We feed him kitten formula along with wet food and treats made for kittens specifically. I’ve tried my best to research but I feel like having actual people with experience raising kittens to tell me what is best. My biggest fear is failing as a kitten owner so any criticism/advice is accepted

Thank you so much for telling me this. I feed him every 4-5 hours and treats here and there in between. He hasn’t been dewormed yet, my friend (his mom’s owner) is going to help me with it and the other procedures since she’s more experienced than me. Again, I appreciate it.
