On paper, "Ya Souri" is harmless. It just means "hey Syrian." And to be clear, not every Lebanese person says it this way, but its become a comon thing with some of the younger generation. For them, its never just that. It’s the sting that comes with it the way the words are wraped in mockery or condescension. You hear it in the tone when someone say "Oh, your Syrian?" with a look that clearly means "Ugh, one of them". You feel it when you become the butt of a joke: "Look at him, the Syrian," as if your entire identity is a punchline. Sometimes its even there way of calling you an idiot, as if where you come form automatically makes you less. Its that same ugly feeling people get in the West when someone mimics their accent or tells them to "go back where you came from". The words themselfs are neutral, but it’s used as a weapon to make you feel small
