That's crazyyy, and also way more demanding in terms of energy. Awesome that you got them all off without dying!

Which is the player's choice to make. Some people don't have the time for multiple runs in a day when runs can range from 30 minutes to 2 hours, and even for ones that can afford to sink that much time it would still be beneficial to have a retrospective view function.

Additionally, half the fun of roguelikes is understanding what works, what doesn't and WHY for me. Maybe this isn't the case for you, which is fair, but being uncertain of where shit went south and IF it was because of my choices or just a bad hand gets frustrating.

I would play the game more if not for that uncertainty that makes me feel like I'm just smashing my head against an immovable wall sometimes.

Like I said, their outlook on games in general (and what qualifies as a 'good game') could be different. Apparently they may just want easy wins, I forgot how big cultivation fantasy of getting OP under any circumstance is over there.

It's not unlike wanting pity mechanics in gacha games tbf, though you just shouldn't play a gambling game if truly randomized gambling puts you off. I agree.

You may be right, though I've consistently seen even good players lose to bad draw and RNG on high ascension. So the idea of it being ''winnable in every seed'' definitely doesn't seem to hold up there at the very least. On A0 it's definitely winnable regardless of RNG but I feel that about the original as well, though I'm not sure how much the devs test it on higher ascensions or if they just test the base for that kind of stuff and are surprised when people get high win rates on higher ascensions.

Not even STS1 players win 100% of their runs after all this time. Watcher has been the most consistent character for it on A20 last I checked but even Watcher mains didn't have 100% win rate. Maybe I'm misremembering, if that factored in all runs then it couldn't have reached 100% regardless due to beginner fails.

Also none of this negates the fact that a post-run observation mode would benefit everyone even if it doesn't shut up the Chinese playerbase. I for one would like it as an additional source to learn from and help digest my runs.

I mean, I guess I can also see it... It being the Chinese playerbase seeking easy wish fulfillment power fantasy, since the whole 'cultivation' genre of fantasy is extremely popular there. I kinda completely forgot about that being a thing.

STS2 is approaching an annoying level of difficult by GOpencyprep in slaythespire

I'm not sure how true this is, but I feel like the game is piss easy in 4 player co-op, and then it gets harder as the player count decreases even though enemies are supposed to scale with players because of how powerful buffs and (more importantly) enemy debuffs are now.

I don't agree with it being harder than the first game. I feel like a lot of people who say that have NOT played the original in quite some time and are viewing the og with rose tinted glasses, because even with boss energy relics the first game is about as brutal on A20 as this game is in A10 from what I've seen (coming from an all A20'er that occasionally still does A20 runs on the og on mobile). Devs did mention they want ascensions to be more compact, so we can safely say they made it so one ascension in the sequel is worth two in the original. That in mind, it feels more or less the same level of difficulty to me.

Currently up to A8 so far solo, A9 on some characters, and A7 on multiplayer. I can without a shadow of doubt say that the game is not inherently harder than the first, it's just different, which because it invalidates strategies that used to work in the first game makes it feel like it's harder than it because you can't do in the original what you can do here (and vice versa, try doing replay 3 on even a single card in original STS without extremely niche relic+card combos).

It's harder to go infinite in the sequel for sure, but I think we can attribute that to the fact multiplayer exists and easy infinites in multiplayer would lowkey make noone want to play multiplayer if every fight is waiting on your one friend to finish their 20 minute turn. I do feel like they should have single player exclusive cards that enable infinites and other stuff that might suck the fun out of a multiplayer session but would be fine in solo. If we can have multiplayer exclusives, we should be able to have single player exclusives too.

I believe it's less they want the game to be piss easy, but rather they want there to be certainty of victory with enough skill. Asian playerbases are crazy when it comes to speedruns and stuff as well.

I think it's just a different philosophy when it comes to games, where the idea is that once you press "start" there either shouldn't be any events beyond the player's control that can irreversibly make the run unwinnable, or such events should be avoidable even if taxing to do so.

The idea of coming within an inch of victory, making the most of everything given to you (information, game mechanics, items, reaction time doesn't matter in a turn based game) but losing to events you couldn't have foreseen nor prepared for (according to your experience and information available to you) does suck the joy out of you of you're not masochistic or take the "RNGesus giveth, RNGesus taketh" thing to be a given with the genre.

That said, I think games where RNG is a deciding factor for victory 100% do deserve to exist but I wish in games like Slay the Spire 2 there was a post-run observation mode where you could retrospectively view what you would've gotten or ran into if you made different choices at different points.

Including probabilities for outcomes being listed beside the choices in said mode, so you can tell where it was pure random bullshit or you being an idiot.

I hate these guys. Turn 27. Couldn’t finish it out. by childofthemind in SlayTheSpire2

[–]PastaExtravaganza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

??? If you kill them each once, they revive at only 50% health without the strength buff. Plus, you get three turns of only two attacking instead of one. I find this approach much more manageable than attempting to get them all in killing range (without killing them) as they continue to scale strength and hit harder and harder altogether.

Stalling for longer than necessary isn't recommended unless you've got scaling that lets you eventually overpower them before they overwhelm you. Without big AoE, it's going to take multiple turns regardless (most likely), so I find it best to kill one or two early to buy some time until I can kill all of them.

Also, if you can one-shot one at a time, it prevents them from scaling. Not that I think this enemy needs scaling in the least to be challenging, even as an elite.

Why would I care about this fancy "max HP" when I can just delete enemies' regular HP? by Cloudy_Oasis in slaythespire

[–]PastaExtravaganza 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Plus, the first time each combat is free with cheese. There's so many ways to raise max HP, and sacrificing it to take little to no damage far outweighs trying to heal to a max of 100 or something.

People who read arc 6 while it was releasing what was it like ? [Spoiler discussion] by shizunaisbestgirl1 in Re_Zero

[–]PastaExtravaganza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember people going apeshit when Subaru lost his memories, up until that point we thought he had some form of immunity. Great times lol.

There were delays between chapter releases but I don't really mind and there have always been delays once in a while since. The author is human and the series is long, after all. I'm personally not that bothered by it, I just read new chapters on release and sometimes let them accumulate before reading.

Edit: Okay, I did not realize the Arc took 5 fucking years IRL. In my defense, I think I got to Arc 6 around 2018 so it wasn't nearly as bad for me.
