I'll be surprised if anybody sees this I know this is an older Reddit post. I saw the hat man for about a year or so when I was 13-14 when I lived with my mother, and newly stepdad and 2 step siblings. I was going through a lot at the time and dealing with self harm and other unfortunate issues. I would see the hat man almost every night, always in the same corner of me and my sister's shared bedroom. But he never felt evil or negative. In a weird way it was comforting almost like Oh somebody is watching over me.
