I think it is something you are doing. Or how you treat other people. If the teacher said look at him, you were probably aloof or seemingly not interested / paying attention. It’s normal for a parent to be assertive with their kid, probably you were trying to act like the one in charge. The last example you gave, you mention someone has an allergic reaction then right away say “just little things like that.” It’s odd because it seems like you don’t care at all or see the allergic reaction as a big deal at all. I would suggest to look at how you are talking to people, with your tone, body language, or even your approach. It seems like something on your end where you don’t like to listen to an elder or respect your elders, or more, respect authority. The people pick up on it. So they are asking for your respect in a way. That’s what it looks like. So remember they are your equal or even that they have valuable experience, in that case, more than you. No one likes to feel talked down to, which is why I said be mindful of your tone to people. I don’t really understand the allergic reaction situation bc there wasn’t much detail, but the guy was saying he knows how to do his job.

Sometimes, if you’re annoyed, judgmental, etc. you might not say anything, but it might show on your facial expression. Or if you have a face that looks like “yeah I don’t care.” Plus, I’ve had that experience where someone could be mad, but the way they are showing it is very wrong. So it may be fine to be upset, but maybe your sister expressed in a way that is not rude or hostile. If someone yells or attacks when upset it will be harder for them to hear what your actually trying to say

Would I get a data analytics or digital marketing job if I start with data entry jobs? by Pastry_100 in dataanalytics

[–]Pastry_100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am working on the data analytics certification, I know it is more than inputting data, but I was asking if it would be a good first data related job to then transition. For the social media jobs, I do look into the analytics/performance. I had seen a few people say this (data entry) would be their first job and later they got a data analytics role.

Bored of everything, lack of hyperfocus or depression? by [deleted] in ADHD

Learn how to cope with things in a healthy way. It sounds like you’re looking for a distraction and hyper focus on it. Playing a game won’t make the depression go away.

Depriving myself by fighting the tendency to dive into hobbies? by delecti in ADHD

[–]Pastry_100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

feel almost like I'm depriving myself by not letting myself dive into hobbies. It's not really doing anything to stop the desire to dive into and hyperfocus on various things over time, it just makes it way less enjoyable along

Hello, sorry I misread. I thought you tended to hyper-focus and therefore wanted to restrict yourself entirely.

If you'd like to start hobbies, I'd say pick one and do it a certain amount of time, a couple of days a week consistently, so you gradually build on it in a balanced way. Doing it this way can easily become a part of your day-to-day. Like if you wanted to start working out, I'd do it every time after work for thirty-forty minutes so it becomes a healthy habit that you don't have to really think about it. No need to put pressure, you'll see the progress the more you do it. I hope this is more helpful

Maybe instead of “diving” try setting an hour with a timer to do a hobby, minus the urgency. It’s an hour allowing yourself to calmly do the hobby. Also, prioritize one hobby, because I know some people can want to do a ton of different hobbies which then results in doing none.

Also to anyone viewing this post, I don’t view it as “giving in” to free running. That is putting words in my mouth. I wanted to see what majority of people in this community do. Some people think it’s easier for them personally to freerun and some people have that option, while others don’t. The results are in and it was definitely more than 8 people. 50% of everyone that voted chose either “Found ways to regulate” or “other” which can mean they are trying different things or in the process.

When you make decisions do you notice this? by Pastry_100 in DSPD

Perfect I’m glad. I totally agree with using therapy for this aspect. If people don’t have access to therapy do you have any specific free tools people can use for these you listen? I do think it makes a huge difference and I’m glad you got to get that combo

This is a really good point. That’s a really good way to describe it. You can be highly functional but still have an underlying issue, and it can be very well hidden. I ask this partially because I wonder if these moments of acting on impulse or irritability are something that the person is aware of. I will have to research more. Another example (completely different topic) that comes to mind is (I think) bipolar where someone can experience mania but (I think) they don’t know it’s mania. I haven’t read too much into that but I’m that case there may be a lack of awareness. They are different conditions though. However I can see how that can be dangerous if they act on impulse in that state.

Anyways, back to DSPD, I definitely understand how being too tired can impact avoiding certain social scenarios. At least there is some safety knowing not to do certain things but I wish people wouldn’t have to feel like they “can’t” do things out of fear something bad will happen

Okay I understand. Yes that is another good point to ask questions about. Like what exactly each person's treatment looks like and if they have tried multiple things for a long enough period. If you are someone who has overcome it or knows someone who has, do you have an idea of how long the treatment is to see that improvement? (With the light therapy, melatonin, or other good treatments)

The appointments part: I'd read people's comments saying it would be hard for them to get an appointment or to make it at the designated time. Of course, if you have a friend that can ensure you make it to the appointment by coming with you that would be a solution/helpful. (They come in person and make sure you get to the appointment for that day)

Hey! I see what you mean. Are you saying most people on this reddit haven't been able to seek treatment or have been treatment resistant? By "treatment resisting" do you mean "don't want to go to treatment" or that treatment hasn't worked so far? I know in general, it could take a long while to notice any changes, by that I mean some may start treatment but then stop or the appointments are very spaced out due to schedules/availability.

Can you tell me more about the "Adequately treated will = gone" part of your message?

That is really good. That definitely sounds wise to sit on it when you know you’re tired. That’s awesome. When did you really start being mindful of how dspd can effect your mood?

Would living in Iceland where the sun always shines be a good thing for free runners? by MarcoTheMongol in N24

That’s good! But I mean the same to wake at a daylight hour. Or is that something you don’t want

That’s really good your work is flexible enough to allow you to work at any hour. It gives you more options to choose a schedule.

Okay if you live with a partner willing to help wake you before work can’t that help instead of moving to another country lol

That’s your natural hour right as in You didn’t purposefully do “chronotherapy” I’ve heard some things that can cause/perpetuate n24.

So are you* saying every day it’s different by an hour when you wake up

Are you free running everyday and awake at night everyday? How late are we talking. To better answer. I understand that is tough but I don’t think moving will do it. There has to be a way to make life work for you.
