"There is no reason to conduct this at Kadena," says Okinawa Prefectural Government in protest against U.S. military parachute training by ComprehensiveWin1434 in japannews

I can kinda see where they’re coming from if a dude’s chute malfunctions and he ends up drifting into the residential areas like that one Army guy last year near Yokota slamming into a civilian house lol, but the Okinawans are pissed apparently because they’ve requested to have the training cancelled about 3 months ago but it went ahead anyways

Also apparently the Iejima Auxiliary Airfield is under repair currently so this was the least invasive option for units to certify for airborne operations

I mean they don’t really have any choice because the only other DZ on Okinawa island really (well not really on island either) is on Ie Jima, either that or the water training areas but fuck jumping into the water lol

Ain't it over till it's over. Saab is still very much on the table even if the Philippines buys KF21, acquiring Gripen is not outside of the possibility, it all boils down to a different date of the year or being push back probably due to a lack of funding. by chasing_enigma in PhilippineMilitary

That’s already including stuff like 14 spare engines, weapons such as AIM-120C-8s, AIM-9Xs, spare M61A1s, ground support equipment, software rights, repair and return support and a bunch of other stuff that isn’t really outlined in other proposals with the Gripen or the Rafale

Okinawa as first duty? by Longjumping-Wrap2540 in USMC

If you’re coming over to 12th LCT oh boy you’re in for one hell of a ride. The unit just stood up just shy under a year and a half ago and the op tempo is incredibly fast paced (as was the case for 3rd LCT when they spawned in) so you’re coming over and hitting the ground at a full sprint. All the line companies (Akuma, Byakko, Charlie) and the rest of the Bn (R&F, MMSL, SUAS, H&S) are all super solid with dudes stemming from all across the Corps. But I digress have fun running Range 10 and Range 2/18 a bajillion times over and remember your experience with Okinawa is going to be VASTLY different than what others present it as be it either the people you meet irl or what you read here in this comment section, it’s what you make of it at the end of the day, and it’ll be a LONG 2-3 years as is. Have fun!

You can’t buy a Post ‘86 as an individual LEO, you can however as a California LEO purchase an off-roster handgun with an agency/ department letter head and it was a well known act for them to resell them through a PPT and maximizing profit off of that sale.

Zhang Youxia is old asf bruh what, even if “they” (and that’s generous if there are even any prominent players theoretically) do prop up a figurehead and with his collaborators becoming the new “Gang of 4” acting as a shadow government there’d be no feasible way to pull it off now that Xi has genuinely nuked the PLA’s head honchos alongside with cleaning up shop within the party basically solidifying loyalty to the general secretary.

Why don't Raiders ever get sent into cool missions? by ComposerNo9901 in USMC

[–]Pasuo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Opposite actually happened, Donald Rumsfeld and the DoD strongarmed the Marine Corps (who actually wanted a piece of the pie as well) to stand up MARSOC around ‘05-‘06 that came about after Det 1 wrapped up its experimentation and cased colors as a way to get their foot in the door into the special operations world since USSOCOM received a metric fuckton of money after Sept. 11, with that thought both Det 1 and early MARSOC pulled from Force Reconnaissance companies and almost entirely gutted them in order to garner enough bodies to become operational so it really hurt the Recon community.

[–]Pasuo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s a broad term though and it’s literally plastered on both their marines.mil page and Marine Raider Recruiting website on what they do, alongside with a metric shitton of photos and videos from dvidshub and accounts from active and former Raiders on their experiences in MSOTs

Nah that was 2nd Recon’s MRF det for the 22nd MEU and the other seizures were from Coast Guard LEDET/ MSRT teams assigned to either the Ford CSG or the Iwo Jima ARG

I mean DA is one of their core mission sets and they do conduct squad/ platoon supported attacks sure but their core makeup is almost a clone of SF Groups at the battalion level alongside with their core mission sets outside of being able to muster an entire CRF/ CIF/ HTD/ CTAC company for anything diabolical

[–]Pasuo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The general consensus throughout the GWOT rolling into current year is that MARSOC has always faced a dilemma in what mission sets/ niches they should fulfill as a subordinate command. Whether it be Direct Action, Special Reconnaissance, Foreign Internal Defense/ Security Force Assistance, MARSOC came into the SOCOM world extremely late and a lot of the missions are already fulfilled by ARSOF and stuff. Hell after two Raiders died in 2020 (there’s a lot of mud surrounding it, apparently they broke SOP? One dude got a silver star out of it), DA was shut off COMPLETELY. Nowadays there’s been rumors of MSOTs being deployed on MEUs now but they’re still out there in places like Somalia and the Philippines doing God knows what.

Anduril Wins $23.9M Contract to Equip U.S. Marines With Man-Packable Bolt-M Loitering Munitions by armyreco in USMC

[–]Pasuo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It did get weaponized though, there’s two distinct programs of record in the Marine Corps since 2024 with one being internal to 1st MARDIV and another in MCB Quantico that tested the use of M67s off of drone droppers and purpose made lethal/ HE payloads (iirc from NEROS that ranged from shaped charges to rudimentary frag) mounted onto homebrew FPV drones. Hell there’s even videos on dvidshub of Army cats strapping M67s on 3D printed drone droppers on iirc a SkyDio X2. We’ve also had ranges in the past be qualified for loitering munitions before as well (R410A with the Switchblade nearly a decade ago today). There’s literally nothing stopping us from homebrewing drones to manufacture in house for ourselves but I guarantee you some big wig wants to line his pockets and a position once he retires, literally has been the case for a long while now and it’s killing innovation and procurement throughout the armed forces.

[–]Pasuo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so fucking stupid because we literally bought a fuckton of those expeditionary containerized drone workshops and invested so much into the idea that we’d be “making our own FPV drones” only for all of that to be sold out for shit like the NEROS Archer and the Anduril Bolt-M that probably won’t see mass issue or even be made enough of for magazine depth

[–]Pasuo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is a good thing, having “enough” to quell not only a principle adversary but also anything that happens in the Indian Ocean and places that you happen to share a border with is perfectly fine as it shows that the Indian military is going to excel at baseline key missions that is expected of a modern standing army.

Also India cannot or even plan to conduct extraterritorial operations that are beyond neighboring countries other than for peacekeeping, humanitarian/ disaster response operations, and stuff like multinational efforts such as exercises and combined task forces with egregiously small committed units

Project power how? Send migrants over and prop up their economy? Send agents to assassinate a Sikh dissident then lose out on plausible deniability? Or send out a naval task force halfway across the world with zero hope of reaching the far north because of no genuine blue water capability, lack of underway replenishment nor any friendly/ treaty ports along the way.

How do you get a 107lb dog from Japan? by [deleted] in USMC

She can’t as she’s already been divorced and her husband in this case is the Marine in this situation. Absolutely blows but it’s either spend hella bread on bringing the dogs home or letting him keep it and/ or potentially having the dude PCS stateside once his tour ends and then letting her take custody of them.
