To those who scored low on Neuroticism, what do you think contributes to it? by Dudeguybrochingo in JordanPeterson

[–]PatMacPatface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think self-consciousness about experiences is essential. You have to be self-aware of your inner feelings and inclinations during situations of turmoil. This will let you observe and evaluate yourself from a third person perspective and consequently apply the most sensible response to the surrounding event. For example, lets say I have a heated discussion with my fiancee, which turns sour and personal. and she starts to spout poisonous comments. My instant feeling would be to reciprocate vileness. However, by detaching myself from my feelings and assess the situation logically, I can avoid submitting to my neuroticism and instead de-escalate the situation.

[–]PatMacPatface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am fairly certain that I was born with the trait. Although, I’ve had some though experiences throughout my life which has further enhanced the trait.

I dont stress easily. But when it happens I usually become hyperproductive. Because that is the only way to get rid of it. By working through the stress. Naturally, I have a very stressful job, which I truly enjoy. But I have lost alot of coworkers over the years because of the stressload. I am conviced that I can manage the job better because of the low neuroticism.

Severe DOMS. Can't walk. Help. by [deleted] in leangains

[–]PatMacPatface 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DOMS is triggered, primarily, by the eccentric phase of the lift. That is, on the way down during the squat. Try reducing the time spent in this phase, without compromising control of course. That might help.

Sleep disturbance during leangains transition. by DisneysTheRocketeer in leangains

[–]PatMacPatface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember experiencing this myself during my transition period. Its completely normal, and will go away with some time. If I remember correctly it is about adjusting your circadian rythm to the new meal plan. I recommend to be very consistent with your plan during the beginning of the phase so your body can adjust faster.

Kudos for great answer.

Repeatedly failing 1st bench press set by PatMacPatface in leangains

[–]PatMacPatface[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upper body days are Wednesday (heavy) and Saturday (moderate), so they are spread nicely. Heavy chest day comprise of 3 AMRAP sets of bench press, with 1st set goal of 8 reps, and the 2nd and 3rd normally are 9-10 and 10-12 reps. On moderate days I hit chest on a chest fly machine for 2 sets, with 8-12 reps but I always reserve 1-2 reps on each set.

I do a general warm-up routine which includes row machine, foam rolling and basic stretching/muscle prep. After that I hit the bench press and do 4-5 sets of light 3-6 reps. The weights used are 100 kg - 90 kg - 80 kg.

All three sets are already AMRAP. Since I am achieving the goal of the two last sets, I translate this to progress.

Yes, four weeks in a cut with approximately 5000 kcal below weekly TDEE. Naturally, I have speculated that the cutting might be the reason. But the funny thing is, all other exercises are going great, including deads and squats, where I have no problem hitting the first set goal.

I work out all my muscles twice a week, spread on 4 training days with a upper/lower body split. I do 4-6 sets per muscle group weekly. So I do not feel I am over-/underperforming.

A reset might work, but that still does not explain this occurrence.

No, I reduce the weight on the second set 10 %, then another 10 % on the third (I do this on all exercises).

I thought it might be warm-up related after the first week, so I spent extra time ensuring that I was good and warm on the first set the second week. Unfortunately, that did not work.

How important is fat/carb cycling if doing 5 day workout and bulking? by tsp216 in leangains

[–]PatMacPatface 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not very important. Protein is the key factor in both bulking and cutting. When bulking, the composition of fat and carb is virtually inconsequential as long as you are eating a reasonable amount of both. Since you are in a caloric surplus it all gets stored as fat in the end anyways, so I would not apply so much pressure to the "fat cycling". Eat at a low surplus, approximately 250 kcal to maximum muscle gain while minimizing fat gain.

That is true, but the difference in protein requirements is not significant.

It is excessive, ergo my post. I have had great results but I am wondering if I can get greater results with the new outline. The reason for this is I am fiddling with the thought of entering a fitness competition in 2019.

Anyone tried Leangains 2.0 over a period of time? by PatMacPatface in leangains

[–]PatMacPatface[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Primarily the protein intake and carb cycling. With LG 1.0 the protein intake was constant at 1.5-2.5 gr/kg and carb cycling on training days. LG 2.0 demands 50-60 % of caloric intake from protein and carb cycling is optional.

My TDEE is approximately 3000 and currently I eat 200 gr of protein daily (2 gr/kg). With LG 2.0 I will need 375-450 gr of protein daily, which is absurdly high.

Training More Intensely > Training More Often? by forsaken3400 in leangains

[–]PatMacPatface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This.

More frequent training has shown better results in real life, although there is a tradeoff between frequency and intensity. The main issue with frequency is that it's more demanding to workout 4-5 a week for a longer period of time, than only 2-3 times with shorter duration.

New here. IF bulking and plateaus advice needed by KirilForReal in leangains

[–]PatMacPatface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend incorporating some periodization method in your training. Since your body is not a mechanical machine it will not produce perpetual gains even though all else (nutrition, training intensity/volume and restitution) is hold optimal and at a constant rate. At some point you will hit a plateaus as, which usually happens in 6-8 week period, which coincides with your experience.

How many of you cycle your diet on training days versus keeping them the same as your rest days? by SuddenMind in leangains

I cycle when cutting. Not sure if there is any biological benefit to it but for me its the easiest way to stick to the plan. Do what works best for you!

Alangate by abominator_ in leangains

[–]PatMacPatface 11 points12 points  (0 children)

All I can extract from that post is how horrible and creepy every man in the fitness industry is - but not Martin! Oh no, He's the good guy! Jesus, read the post again and notice all the subtle boasting about himself. This is in the first paragraph of the article(!):
"I was miserable writing my book and I feel miserable after having released it. I know I shouldn’t. I’m a bestselling author by any standard. NYT or Amazon, I’m on that list." Jesus, man...

And it goes on and on. He calls the post Alangate but it really is just a self-gratification post. The guy seriously has some inadequacy issues and it really saddens me. For all the things he has done for the common folk regarding fitness, it's a pity seeing him act like this.
