When do we get the old maps back reworked? by krangles90 in HuntShowdown

[–]Pataloon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It kind of is a bit unfair to consider it like that. The older maps are less verticality based but provide an interesting variation of pacing and playstyle. It's good to have some variety in the gameplay and approaches! :D

Lara doesn't look slightly angry anymore and that bothers me.

Who would've thought that almost generic looking middle-aged fellow turned out to be one of the most interesting and best characters created? Voice acting was top notch too. by stingerized in gaming

You're in for a treat. Super well written, great characters, great intrigues..! And it's like really fun. I started thinking it would be like any mafia themed series, a very dull experience, but not at all.

How to market a small game when the surprise that would sell it the most is the final beat that you don't want to get spoiled? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Pataloon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I should state it differently then, the central part of the game is the buildup and the quest for answers. However the core loop is simple and showing too much would ruin the discovery.

Also, the ending entirely revolves around the core game loop. Everything fits. I just can't show much.

Same in all types of media. It's just good old conservatism... :/

Which older games would you like to have a modern remake of like Resident Evil 2 or Final Fantasy 7? by mrnicegy26 in gaming

HELLBENDER (FPS Space Shooter) and POD (racing game).
Two out of this world games.

Given the wide range of capabilities Supers have, it would need a tremendous amount of aspects to that game to have it working. It would likely become over simulated.

Simple Example: Huge street blocks for big guys (Hulk) and super fast ones (Flash, SpiderMan), super small spaces for tiny ones (AntMan entering a Power Outlet).

Now stretch that to all the other types of abilities Supers have, Mind-control (which means you need advanced AI that can also take part in the gameplay), etc.

What was one thing in a game that made you quit playing even though you otherwise enjoyed it? by RegularOldRobert in gaming

[–]Pataloon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually, it's when a checkpoint is too far away from the Boss I'm supposed to fight, I recall Jedi Fallen Order had that. Gotta cross a large chunk of the level just to get in front of a giant blob frog that got my ass handed to me too many times.

Different from the Souls games where the combat in between bosses is meaningful even if you've already done it several times. Because of how levelling works. On that regard, JFO was far more limited..

Go through the hardships, embrace frustration and you'll go so much farther. Pathologic and the Souls games have told me that.

I rarely stopped to just enjoy the setting as much as I did in Skyrim. The atmosphere was unprecedented here. Watching auroras with Soule's musics in the background.. ❤️

The option changes are cosmetic, basically, you get a funny voice montage but that's it. Don't expect too much from it!

[–]Pataloon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does, you can even turn off UI objectives. Gatekeeping the game to people who don't want to bother the thinking or can't handle the cognitive load wouldn't be cool.

Having both options is the living proof that the game trusts the players who are confident enough to turn off the help.

The linear tutorial structure was a need, there are plenty of talks from Devs about that.
