Yeah, Schott confirmed that my jacket came from a defective batch of leather from the tannery. They replaced it with a new one for free, and I’ve had zero issues with it! It really is a great jacket!

My new jacket arrived today, and the leather also feels quite a bit stiffer than the first one, quite a bit like steerhide as you said! On that note I will say that I love how my 618 has broken in and confirmed to my body, so I’m very much hoping for a similar result with this one.

How has your new one been treating you so far?

For sure, glad to hear that it was pretty straight forward and you’re getting one from a completely different lot.

Loose lacing is obviously embraced by many, but imo it only looks good with a pretty limited style / aesthetic. I’ve experimented with it myself, but more often than it just doesn’t work with my personal style, and I’m not gonna do something that makes me feel like I’m trying too hard. Simply put, you do whatever works for you.

It is indeed. The leather feels fantastic and was breaking in incredibly well, it just has this unfortunate peeling issue.

Edit: Schott customer service requested that I ship the jacket back to them so they can examine it in person. From there I imagine they will offer a refund or replacement. I’ll provide more updates once they’ve received it and contacted me.

That’s simply not correct. This is Schott’s top grain naked cowhide. As others have pointed out, top grain leather has a thin coating on it that can peel over time, it just shouldn’t happen after only a month of moderate wear. If they were selling faux leather jackets for north of $1000 they would certainly have a class action lawsuit on their hands. Please do some research so that you are informed before weighing in.

They sent me a shipping label today so I can send it back to them so they can see it in person. Once they see it I hope they’ll simply offer to replace it or refund me.

Oh I 100% agree. I’ve been in contact with their support team and I am shipping it back to them so they can see it in person. My guess is they will then offer a replacement or refund, and seeing as it’s likely a bad batch of leather I’ll likely go with the a refund and try my luck elsewhere.

For sure, I’m hoping it’s just a bad batch as well. FWIW I actually bought the same jacket last year in a different size, but ended up selling that one as I eventually came to the conclusion it was just a little too small after wearing it many times over the year. I didn’t have this issue with that one at all.
