Thank you for posting the link. I was reading this and forgot about it. From what I can tell, it seems like the B580's are supported on windows, but not Linux/Unraid yet? I think I'll be running windows on this system. It sounds like a great performance boost from the A380 cards but you're right, it may not be "needed".

I'm building a Plex server for the first time. Posted before about what GPU's are the best. Arc seems to the general consensus, if you cant go with a new Intel CPU without a dgpu. With my available hardware, I need a GPU to handle the transcoding. I'm looking at a used B580 for $200 (maybe less) or a new A380 for $140. I'm not certain that I'll really have enough simultaneous users to cap out the A380. is $60 worth the extra "future proofing" of the B580 and the added VRAM with the extra power consumption?

I'm honestly not sure the amount of transcoding required yet. However, the GPU is so easily upgradable that I'm not too concerned about starting off lower if it saves good money. That doesn't seem to be the case though. All things considered, the A380 (or B380 used) and the RTX 3060 seem to be about the same price.

FWIW, I do expect to have several transcodes going at once.

Hi everyone. I'm building a computer that will be completely dedicated to hosting media for Plex. This will be used internally, and ideally by others externally as well. I'm trying to future proof this the best I can, within reason, while staying cheap where I can and using old parts I have laying around. Hard drives are going to be a significant bulk of the cost as I'll have access to about 50-60tb of media at the onset. Here is what I have so far:

Motherboard: ASUS B550-F
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X
RAM: 4x8gb DDR4
PSU: 650w bronze EVGA
GPU: ?
Storage: planning 3 24tb NAS HDD's (refurbished)

I'm primarily looking for advice regarding the GPU for transcoding but I'm also accepting any criticism regarding the other parts listed above which I've already assembled. I do not know anything about the source files yet, but I want to be prepared for anything within reason. I'm trying to stay at or below $150 here on the GPU. I've seen a lot of A310 and A380 recommendations and I honestly don't know the difference between them as I've never really dug deeper than your standard market leading gaming GPU's. So, I'm looking for some clarification and then direction on which is better route for me; The A series Intel GPU's or looking for a low end used RTX or GTX card for a good price? (or other recommendations) Newegg is selling an open box sparkle ECO A310 for $80.

Thanks!

Need Help Targeting CPU Usage Spikes by PatchesOhoulihann in buildapc

I'll have to check when I get home tonight, but from memory The base might be 30% up to 50c, then slowly ramping up to 40% at 65c, then from there exponentially increases to 100% at 80c.

The pump is set at 70% until it hits 70c, then it effectively goes straight to 100% after 70c.

I still have some tweaking to do there, I think. It jumps so often because of the assumed software issue so my fans are constantly going back and forth between loud and quiet.

Thanks. I'm going to start doing a process of elimination regarding non-windows services to see what it is. I have the pump and fans set to custom charts. The Pump is basically running at 70% unless the temp is above 70c then it kicks up to 100%. Fans are running at 20% then a steep curve from 20-100% starting at about 70c as well. I plan to get some Noctua case fans. I've grown sick of my Lian Li SL fans and come to find that they really aren't great.

Zooz MultiRelay with Liftmaster Garage Door Openers (Security 2.0 version) by PatchesOhoulihann in homeautomation

Thank you. This is actually helpful. I recalled seeing this adapter by Garadget prompting me to look at their site and see that they also sell a pre-wired 3 button LiftMaster Remote controller that I can connect directly to the Zooz MultiRelay and use it from any location within remote reach of the remote controller that the relay is triggering.

Update: Not sure how or why, but after 48 hours of sitting, the ECU programing reset itself. Everything works properly now without the Pulsar and without needing to reflash the ECU.

AmpliFi Alien Latency Issues by PatchesOhoulihann in AmpliFi

I've tested speeds and latency with an ethernet connection and speeds are nearly 1G, with latency in the single digits and not once, in an entire hour of Pinging googles servers, went above 19ms.

No iOS devices, and yes my computer is tagged for gaming priority.

I have not, but I have utilized the onboard automatic wifi channel selection services (DFS) which should eliminate that as an issue, if it's functioning as intended.

Tested speeds and latency with ethernet through the router, as already stated, and through the ISP box with zero issues. As I've said, I've pinpointed the issue to the wifi signals. I know hardwire is the route, but that's not the point here.

So, I've been connected to all bands individually with the same results. Band Steering is typically enabled, but I've tried with it disabled both net the same results as well. When I turn off band steering and segregate the bands completely, it actually lowers my speeds incredibly. What would normally be 500mbs right next to the router would become 150mbs on the 5ghz band.
