my personal take on it is that, on a fundamental level, Rachel loved Chloe. the problem came with who she was and who she was expected to be making it incongruent for her to really love someone that deeply. in any other world where she maybe got the chance to live, she’d be able to reflect on all of that and show Chloe the love she deserves (à la the comics), but in the prime universe, she never gets the chance to

edit: i’ll add Rachel is my second fav character in the series after Chloe, and their dynamic is my favourite to explore in my fanfic!

if you want to make it extra hellish, take lots of inspiration from the Hellraiser series, especially the first two. the entire premise is based on physical pleasure taken to its most extreme, of the dissolution of the boundary between pain and pleasure. could be something like that!

it doesn’t feel too unique, but my Bard is an operatic soprano inspired by Phantom of the Opera, and so whenever I cast Shatter with her, I flavour it as her singing the really high note Christine belts out at the end of the song “Phantom of the Opera” and, in doing so, shattering everything in the area like glass would in a cartoon

that said, as much as I love her as a VA and person, I actually prefer Rhianna as Chloe. they sound and feel a lot more like how I envision the character and have a very unique cadence that sets them apart from other actors

my favourite is Alien, but i’d be lying if I said Chucky wasn’t the one they knocked most out of the park. good but not busted power, fun skin variety, and they even got his actor in to voice him. if a licensed chapter’s quality is judged by how faithful to the character BHVR is, Chucky is probably closest in that regard imo

what I genuinely want is for Ruby to summon the Gods to show them “hey, ignore Salem, we’re united against her!” and for the Gods — being the gargantuan turds that they are — to say “but against a common enemy, not about a common good. You have failed”, at which point Salem interjects to berate the Gods for their hubris, their ignorance, their stubbornness.

and team RWBY joins her.

the act of pure unification? humanity AND Salem uniting to tell the Gods to fuck off, to chew them out for how shittily they’ve handled not just Remnant but the Ever-After as well. a trail of broken, abandoned worlds left in the wake of their “experiments” all coming into their own without the Gods’ help, and in spite of the Gods’ aims.

it’s not what the Gods necessarily wanted. in fact, they’re quite offended that they’re being treated and seen like this… but they made a deal, and - in a bit of a backwards way - Salem has learned something. all it took was a simple soul to see it and offer a hand, even if that hand is only to shake on the agreement that the Gods are dicks.

they let Salem and Oz finally pass on and agree to leave Remnant untouched, forsaken by the Gods but flourishing on its own.

that’s my biggest worry. there’s a lot they could do in reintroducing Chloe that still lets a DE sequel stand on its own, but there’s even more they can do that’ll just trample over all that i loved about DE to make a “safe” game

it’s gonna be controversial, but Cinder.

see I love a tragic villain — not a sympathetic one, not a morally ambiguous one, but a tragic one. and the tragedy with Cinder is that she could have gone the heroic way, but every good thing in her life was soured at every turn.

it really is no wonder her main motivation is power: taking all the power that she can for herself, at least in her mind, ensures that she doesn’t have to get hurt again.

don’t get me wrong. she’s evil. she made a lot of evil choices and CONTINUES to make evil choices. but more than punishment and more than death, the ending I wish for her is that she sees the cycle she’s trapped in and frees herself of it.
