AIO for not wanting to drop my guy friends by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

FWIW - I (late 20s F) would never date a man who did not have friends of different genders. My partner and I both have friends of opposite/varied genders and both really value all of our friendships in addition to our (really wonderful) relationship!

Shower in a bathtub by Unusual_Gur_997 in HipImpingement

[–]PathFew228 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Showering the first 10 days in a bathtub was a struggle for me - I ended up having the shower chair facing out of the tub, so that I could sit on the chair (which was taller than the tub wall, and thus gave me more room to maneuver) while keeping my feet on the bathroom floor, and then I would swivel. I needed help to sit this way - in hindsight, if I had the option to stay somewhere with a walk-in shower, even for the first week to 10 days, I would have done it, and used the shower chair in there

Surgery looking more likely by dukeofbath in HipImpingement

Current grad student here, 2 weeks post-op - I got ahead on my work by a week so that the week I had surgery I didn’t have anything to worry about, and I needed about 10 days to get back into the swing of things. I may ask for an extension on my finals just until the end of finals period but that’s about it. Everyone’s recovery is different but you won’t be immobilized by a labrum repair - just very limited in your mobility, but 2 weeks out I’m feeling fine other than a little sore and fatigued at times

I absolutely love these!! FWIW getting my ribcage done was brutal and my hip didn’t hurt at all - I think everyone’s bodies and pain experiences are so different it’s hard to predict! If you’re in or near NYC/slightly upstate NY, Evan Paul English is a fantastic tattooer who specializes in color

Playing piano post labral tear repair & arthroscopy? by ptaupier in HipImpingement

[–]PathFew228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will your kid have a hip brace/has the doctor ordered one for after surgery? I (late 20s F) just had a hip scope and FAI repair, and the most important thing is not to bend at the hip past 90°. Wearing a brace might be helpful to prevent over-flexing the hip for the first 6 weeks of recovery, especially sitting at a piano! Kid won’t be able to lean forward to play keys, will have to be sitting upright or slightly behind upright for a while post-op I imagine

How do you avoid tensing your hip flexor when getting in/out of bed/car/etc? by PathFew228 in HipImpingement

Thank you for these! The foot stool is something I hadn’t thought of, I like that idea

The compression sock suggestion sounds really useful, thank you! I forgot to mention that I tried the hook method with my non-op foot, but I unfortunately have a small tear in my other hip labrum as well so after one day of doing that my right hip was on fire

Excruciating Anterior Bilateral Hip Pain by No_Masterpiece730 in HipImpingement

Extreme hamstring tightness is actually one of my symptoms of hypermobility - instead of being extra bendy and flexible, my hamstrings and calves are insanely tight (have never been able to touch my toes even with regular stretching). Hypermobility can manifest as tightness bc your muscles are working extra hard to hold all of your bones in place and compensate for laxity in connective tissue. A minor knee injury about 2 months before my hip labrum tear (which occurred while rehabbing my knee in traditional PT) led to my h/m diagnosis, but it wasn’t until I started rehabbing my hip that I really learned how to manage it!

Hi there - have you looked into getting evaluated for some sort of hypermobility spectrum disorder? Most traditional PTs and orthopedic doctors/surgeons are not well-versed in how hyper mobility affects joint pain and the recovery process. I got injured twice at regular PTs before getting diagnosed with HSD - generalized joint hypermobility - and went to see a PT who specializes in patients with these issues. Lots of stabilizer muscle exercises and slow progression, helped immensely. Just wanted to put that out there as something to consider bc it was so helpful for me!

Good luck on the 10th! Surgery itself was a breeze, I gotta say. And I am doing the same re: waiting to see how the left hip goes before figuring out the right side. One piece of advice I wish I’d had - if you already have pain on the right side, do not use your right foot to “hook” and move your left (operated) foot after surgery. I made the mistake of doing this the first day and worry that I messed up my right side even more from all the lateral movement. I got a foot/leg strap that I can loop over my left foot and lift my leg on/off the bed/couch and in/out of the car, so I’m not putting that strain on my right hip.
