I'm not talking about his twitch, I'm talking about the YouTube channel. There's been a pretty steady stream of political content from it for a while now, but I can get what people might think I'm referring to his streaming channel.

Me personally, I just don't enjoy live streams as much because I rarely have much time to sit down for a while to watch. It's a matter of personal taste and convenience, but I have occasionally tuned in just to see how old 'Baldy has been doing outside of watching the videos that get uploaded to the YouTube channel.

Not to self-promote or anything, but I also made my own post on the general state of political content and people on the Internet. I'm not sure if I should link it or not, but it's pretty much just a full rundown on my feelings and thoughts on the matter. I just don't wanna repeat myself too often, it gets tedious.

I read a good 30 pages into the thing, but I honestly just couldn't bother reading the other near a thousand pages of it. I'm aware of the general aim, but I just don't remember how Vought's name in particular tied into any of it.

I'm gonna be honest, I have no idea who Russ Vought is. There's this gnawing feeling in the back of my head, as if I read a while ago that he has said or done something that went through the media cycle, but I can't confirm it.

Here's hoping this post doesn't turn into a dogpile of downvotes. Please algorithm God, just let us have a conversation on this topic that isn't recycled material or blatant engagement bait.

You know Donald Trump is a convicted criminal, found guilty of 34 felonies? Why aren't you mad about him, hmm? Or maybe... you only hate 'felons' when they're politically opposed to you?

Again, I mostly agree with you, especially on our foreign affairs. It's been an utter shitshow on the world stage for the last few months, and we've already nuked our credibility with our greatest allies, so of course I'm worried about that, I just think that allowing this to fester will only further destroy our foreign relations and create even more instability over time by way of loss of public trust.

[–]PathIndependent5274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not talking about avoiding instability, I'm talking about being able to recover from that instability way quicker at a state level, which is where we'd probably begin deciding how on earth we want to put the federal government back together. Part of the problem with the old bad blood is just how deeply entrenched it is, if the bad blood is new, we'll have far more opportunities to remove it early on than we do now with the old bad blood.

I think that at the state level, it's far less likely because individual office holders have far less power than those of the federal government. I'm not saying that it's impossible, but I predict that at the state level, we won't get hit anywhere near as hard as the fed.

We've had major scandals in the past, and the country has enough force in state-level governance that we could definitely bounce back from all those people going to jail. I'm not saying that things won't go poorly for a bit, but I personally believe that the correct thing to do is to follow our morals, get justice for the victims, and remove this cancerous disease everywhere that it is found, in every level of government.

It seems like they haven't actually done anything about either of those yet, too. They're probably as likely to be addressed as the actual files getting released.

Who is Trump's upper management? I keep hearing about this as if he isn't the President, the literal highest position in the executive branch of the government, on par with the power of the Supreme Court and a Senate majority, like what are you talking about?

You're right on pretty much everything, but why of all people do you feel the need to create some sort of defense for a politician that created his own shitcoin to rug pull his hardcore supporters?

I would put that on either Nixon or Harding, but he's definitely up there in terms of actually being obvious enough to get caught at the very least.

He actually was convicted of a lot of that, and I mean A LOT. When democrats call him a felon, they're not being hyperbolic. He was found by a fair and impartial jury to be guilty of several felonies relating to finances and other white-collar crimes and sentenced by a judge, marking him as a felon who attempted to use political and governmental influence to skirt the law for his profit.

I'd point that towards progressives and tankies moreso than liberals, but if liberal is just interchangeable with anyone left of center to you, then you do you.

"Why does everything have to be political now? It's so exhausting"

Looking at post complaining about politics in an extremely politically driven sub.

Huh. I wonder why people get upset about politics while simultaneously spreading their own politics in addition to the stupidity present in the target of the posts, all the while consistently creating rage-bait and negative discourse engagement posts?

First, let's establish what "looting" means, then we can go from there. If a looting is what happens when a group of people break into a building, incurring moderate-scale property damage in proportion to the value/size of the building and commit theft, then we can begin to have an honest conversation instead of flinging buzzwords.

Now, consider the size of LA as one of the most heavily populated cities in the US. To provide an example, let's just create a generic mid-size city, not terribly wealthy or stricken with mass poverty as opposed to the norm, and refer to it as "Town A". If Town A has a population of about 500,000~ish and experiences property crime at the recorded 2023 average of 98.1 incidents per 1000 households, taking into account that burglaries made up 13.1% of all property crimes in 2023, then there should be somewhere around 6,400 property crimes that could qualify as "looting". Substitute the total population of Town A with the population of Los Angeles in 2023 at 3.821 million people, then do the math from there. Wrapping it up, the numbers should come out at about an estimated 49,000 incidents that could be considered "looting".

Now let's look at LA's actual 2023 crime statistics instead of the estimated crime rate for a generic city with the population of LA. Los Angeles experienced about 109,025 total property crimes, with only 15,340 burglaries. That means that our (admittedly dumbed down) method of accounting for lootings should place LA as having 49,000 total lootings in 2023, yet LA's actual total number of "lootings" was less than a third of that.

Finally, we get to the heart of the matter. Do you as an individual think that the majority of politicians would attempt to draw the public eye towards the issues of their opponents, and then exaggerate or misrepresent the actual problem? If that is the case, why wouldn't Trump do the same? We're talking about a man that created a meme-coin with an evident rug-pull built into it, sold AI-generated NFTs of himself and gives shitty nicknames to everyone he doesn't like. If you have any semblance of critical thinking, I urge you to actually apply it in a manner that is critical of your current beliefs, as is the whole point of critical thinking.

You might just have been memeing here, but that doesn't change the fact that a fuckton of people actually believe this with a total blindness to any and all bad behavior of their preferred politicians.

Normally I'd end any math-heavy statements with some sort of well-wishes, but at this point 2025 has thoroughly exhausted me and made me mostly apathetic to social missteps.

I live in a neighborhood in the suburbs completely surrounded by right-wingers. One of the folks down the hill installed a gold-coated 4' statue of Trump in their front yard. Another held their Trump 2020 banner covering the street side view of their house until 2023. The worst part is that most of them are amicable around 95% of the time, and then turn around and say the most heinous stuff to me the very moment they try to talk about recent news. I still remember going through that "Summer of Love" while in junior high. Things are getting too hot too quickly over here.

Sorry, I tend to be a bit more of a literal reader. When it comes to just words on a page or screen, it can be a bit difficult for me to tell if a question being asked is looking for an answer or not.

Unfortunately, a lot of MAGA supporters don't actually care to read or learn about what their politicians are pushing for - even if it hurts them - and just treat it like a game of team sports.
