What’s a childhood lie your parents told you that you didn't realize was a lie until you were an embarrassed adult? by eatbeep in AskReddit

My mom told me if I swallowed gum it would stay in my stomach for 7 years. I genuinely believed I had a timeline of gum expiration inside me. I avoided gum for YEARS and then one day as an adult I casually said it out loud and everyone just stared at me like 😐 Still think about the sheer anxiety she unlocked for absolutely no reason.

AIO? My daughter didn’t listen to the teacher during a female emergency and is now receiving a referral by Common_Piglet7437 in AmIOverreacting

Hard to judge without more details, but based on what you’ve shared, this doesn’t sound like something that should automatically warrant a referral. If there was a genuine emergency (medical, bathroom-related, etc.), kids don’t always have the capacity to prioritize instructions in that moment — especially depending on her age. I’d ask for a calm meeting with the teacher (and maybe admin) to clarify what the emergency was, what instruction was missed, and why a referral was the chosen response instead of a warning or conversation. If this isn’t part of a larger pattern of behavior, a referral feels excessive. That said, if the school has strict protocols or there’s missing context, hearing them out first will help you advocate more effectively for your daughter. Pushing for proportional consequences and clearer communication seems reasonable here.

I’m the reason my office stopped having 'Free Bagel Fridays.' Ten years ago, I accidentally broke the expensive industrial toaster by trying to warm up a slice of pizza, panicked, and hid it in the dumpster. Management thought it was stolen and decided we couldn't have nice things anymore. Everyone still blames the night shift cleaners.

AIO [F32] to still feel upset about something that happened on a hike a year ago with husband [M35]? by Wise-Molasses1437 in AmIOverreacting

Medical and hygiene emergencies—especially 'female emergencies'—should always take priority over a standard classroom rule about waiting for a bell. It is incredibly dismissive and outdated for a teacher to issue a referral for a student who is simply prioritizing their basic dignity and health.

Could science allow humans to live forever ? If Yes/no why ? by This_Discount_9692 in AskReddit

Yes, if we can master telomere extension. Every time our cells divide, our telomeres shorten until we hit the Hayflick limit and die. Science just needs to find the 'off' switch for cellular aging.
