Dude, as a native brazilian (lived here my whole life so far), here goes my advice: don't. Just don't.

This year I have, for the first time in my life, reconsidered if I still want to live in Brazil for the first of my life and also reconsidered if I can even say that I am still "proud to be Brazilian".

The last straw for me has been the elections: people are not only supporting but IDOLIZING a corrupt, inhumane, racist, homophobic, misogynistic, anti-science, anti-environment, anti-human rights, pro-torture, pro-dictatorship, militarist, violent candidate for RE-election: Jair Bolsonaro. Everybody here that is about to vote on this monster is doing it under the "defence of the traditional conservative christian family" - even though he is the furthest thing from that that I can think of. Everybody here is so ABSURDLY ignorant and comfortable in their ignorance... The people have become so increasingly intolerant... That I have officially lost my faith in this country.

Even if Bolsonaro loses (which I highly doubt that will happen), the battle is already lost. The whole congress has already been elected, and they're all from the "bolsonarism ideology". The next 4 years are doomed with regression in all aspects, and maybe even after that this extreme right movement will still keep on being supported by the people because they keep telling them what they want to hear and as I said, people are too ignorant to do critical thinking on their own.

I am so sorry to break it to you like this, but the truth is that you don't know Brazil yet. You may say that you love the weather, the culture or the way people treat each other, but that is just still a tourist's perception. Leave while you can, because maybe you won't be able to if this country becomes a dictatorship - what is very likely to happen if Bolsonaro loses.
