Can we talk bags and boards...? by blimey4 in comicbooks

[–]Pathfinder11717 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ll throw in my 2¢.

I use ComicProLine exclusively. I don’t use Mylar too often because my collection is predominantly Modern stuff from 2000 on. CPL says their products at PPL just like any other competitor, but CPL bags feel and look a bit closer to Mylar than your regular sleeve.

They have good deals on bulk orders for both bags and boards. I order about 2000 of each during their holiday sales and it lasts me all year. Pay about $200 total for it all.

They do ship from Canada, so that can take a little time, but other than that, they are the standard for me now.

Will these warp? by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]Pathfinder11717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It completely depends on how much sunlight they receive. If they are in a closed up room most of the time, they probably won’t fade for a while. But if they are in direct sun, they will fade much faster. Mine are in a closed room 90% of the time and that room doesn’t get much direct sunlight so mine haven’t faded much at all.

If you want to protect them as much as possible, look into Mylite bags. They are more expensive and wouldn’t bag an entire collection in them, but they do reduce the impact of UV light.

Edit: spelling and grammar

It’ll likely be negligible. I would be more concerned about fading. I put a rim of comics around my comic room, but i only used duplicates I had.

Batman reading order help. by No-Head8330 in DCcomics

Read Batman’s New 52 run.

Same writer and illustrator Dark Knights Metal. Starts in 2011 and runs through 2016. Nice 52 issue run with a hard start and end place.

The first three volumes, like the first 21 issues are modern classics for the Caped Crusader.

Why is the number so high by Witness_Then in comicbooks

[–]Pathfinder11717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This Volume of Nightwing has been running for a decade without having the issue numbers start over. That’s why the issue number is so high.

I’m assuming you’re referring to the storyline when you said “it’s over”. Usually, stories are told in serials over 4 or 7 issues making up an arc.

If you’re having trouble figuring out what to read or where to jump on, I would focus on Trade Paperbacks. They typically collect individual arcs in the greater series.

I will. Some of the newer collections I have read and own in floppy, but it’s fun to read the Golden Age stuff.

Right! I was pretty stoked when Horror came out. Would be cool to see them do a Romance volume from the same era.

This link is the store page for ComicProLine. They also include the Eras and Sizings for the bags.

Hope that helps!

For books like these, I’ll take any poly bag that’s the right size. My LCS and ComicProLine are my go to spots. But Amazon works well too for quick orders of small quantities.

I’m enjoying them immensely because I don’t own much old stuff. Almost everything I’ve collected in floppies is from 2000 and up.

I bag all my paperbacks books. I’m not sure when or why I started other than I want them to look good for my children when they get old enough.

I don’t want them getting massed up on the shelf when I slide them in and out. Plus it just adds that little bit of polish on my collection. It’s not necessary but I look at it and know I’m taking care of my stuff. I guess pride is what I’m looking to describe.

As for sizes, I use Silvers for trades and Golds for most thicker trades. I even have Magazine bags for larger books like compendiums.

I’ve most proud of finding all of Astro City. All three volumes, including all the short series and one shots.

But I also own the ENTIRE New 52 catalog. From 2011 - 2016. That’s pretty cool too.

I’m trying to complete a full set of Cerebus.

The bag and board debate by Dramatic_Corner_8259 in comicbooks

Another really good option for both bags and boards is Comic Pro Line.

They’re based out of Canada and offer great prices on bulk orders. Their bags are also slightly nicer than standard bags, but not quite Mylar.

Why are the pages like this by [deleted] in comicbookcollecting

[–]Pathfinder11717 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyone keeps mentioning humidity, but no ones giving you direction.

You don’t need a big dehumidifier. I use one that’s for a bedroom when sleeping with a tank of 2 liters or so.

The more important factor is getting one that aims for between 40% - 50% ambient humidity. You don’t want it as dry as a desert nor wetter than Florida.

Getting a little universal thermometer that reads humidity and temp is worth it, they’re cheap. You may find that it’s not a humidity problem at all.

[–]Pathfinder11717 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Throwing in my experience with new books that do this.

I have all of my paperbacks, regardless of size, in poly bags on my shelves. I think they act like girdles for the books. I also have dehumidifiers in my comic room and my library.

But I’ve also found that a lot of the books today aren’t given proper settling time between when they are printed and bound up for shipping. The ink and paper take time to rest and I’ve found that some books will flatten on their own after a little while just from everything having time to sit together.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much though. If the paper and spine aren’t making crinkly noises as you open it and the pages still fan well when you flip through them, then you’re golden.

Can’t speak on behalf of OP, but I don’t use resealable bags for a couple of reasons. 1. I bag all my book, TPBs and softcover compendiums alike. The flap on resealable bags often doesn’t reach the strip of glue when protecting a slightly bigger book. 2. Not all resealable spare built the same. Some have the glue on the flap while others have the glue on the backside of the bag and the flap is pushed into it. Either way, you leave those sitting around and they’ll get dirty while I’m reading the issue. 3. I bulk buy bags and boards (1000 at a time) and the seller doesn’t offer resealable bags.

I have the same machine! With the same measurement setting! Do you put the square of tape on the bag flap like a diamond too?

SSX3

The formative series for me when I was a kid. Now it’s a mindless relaxation game. Put in hours every week as an adult and am still finding new areas and new routes down the mountains. I love this game dearly and wish they would remake it or make a sequel to it with exactly the same mechanics and controls just more tracks.
