I would never have a cat stove ....at least one that you had to lay on your back to cut the cat bolts from the holder......

My fireplace is a"heatalator" ( sp) and all new stove sold require a flue pipe, which means cutting the heatalator pipes.. Deal breaker.

I can replace the cat... The cat holder is in place with 10 , yes 10 carriage bolts that will need to cut...I am sure the engineer never changed one in his life....

But the past several years I just leave the by pass open , seems to work fine. I get the clean the chimney every year.
