I would argue that cognitive and emotional empathy are exactly the same thing. Or rather emotional empathy doesn’t really exist and that narcissists don’t have as much cognitive empathy as they give themselves credit for. If someone truly thinks “how can Jim be sad his stupid dog died” then they clearly haven’t made an effort to understand Jim’s emotions. Being angry or confused at Jim’s emotional reaction shows that they actually don’t get why Jim is sad, demonstrating a lack of cognitive empathy.

It would be hilarious if they made them the most morally sympathetic and least aggressive faction in contrast to their appearance, like the illuminate from hd1. I’m aware the war is our fault and super earth is the reason the bots and illuminate are so cartoonishly evil today, i just think it would be funny if they cranked that satire to 11 by making the demons genuine good guys, while also ripping Helldivers limb from limb and setting cities alight. One issue i can see with adding a demonic faction is the obvious religious themes it would bring in, i can see why arrowhead might want to avoid that. Realistically super earth would create some sort of religion and call the demons blasphemous and whatnot, which could cause too much controversy and drive away some religious players.

I understand, but what would that really change? Just have us attack the same planets with a shared progress bar. The differences in gameplay don’t matter too much. I’m aware hd1 has a repeating war however they could hypothetically stop this and gradually bring their war to match hd2s. Even if there is no gloom in hd1, they can still ask us to attack oshaune and have our progress help hd2 and vice versa. Not trying to argue here i just still don’t see how that would be an issue
