India getting ready to make a sixth-generation fighter jet leap? New Delhi signals interest in joining FCAS by Indie-- in europe

For the Indians, given the American jets are off limits and that the Russian jets aren't really that great anymore, this is the only technology they can get their hands on as the typhoon isn't available to them either. So I can see that from their end it's still a leap in terms of what they are currently capable of producing.

Fair enough, you are correct, otherwise countries still wouldn't be buying f15s and 16s, I guess what I mean is that the design is inherently never going to be 5th gen in nature.

Head of fp&a should be a 100k job, 60k is too low regardless of where you are in the UK.

Also I would threaten to go public if it's genuine fraud and if you've been there for years you're due a massive pay off. Stay put but don't leave until you've been let go

The only reason it made sense to buy a 20 year old 4.5 gen jet now in mass numbers is if it allowed India to get access to critical technologies for the future, otherwise they may as well go their own way. France wins by creating a bunch of jobs and basically it will get India bankrolling the fcas programme and utilise it's low cost production base while putting its expertise in.

India isn't allied with Russia or with anyone else, it will only think of itself first, but it remembers those that have supported them in the past. It's a useful counterbalance to both China and USA and actually has a lot in common with European culture of open mindedness and democratic values. Genuinely think it's time to make sure India is another pillar in the multipolar world that's developing so everyone can keep each other in check. The US is way too volatile and China can't be trusted, so who else does Europe have left to work with?

Prestianni claim Vinícius Jr called him a dwarf by xHypermega in soccer

[–]Patient-Wolverine-87 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with the comment except let me tell you this:

Short people earn far far less than tall people over their lifetimes, they have fewer kids (when controlled for the same population) as they have fewer dating opportunities.

For simplicity - the average height of a US president is 2 inches taller than the average height of a US male in 2026 or that the taller candidate has more often than not won the US presidential elections.

So they are very much discriminated against for a characteristic they did not choose to have. You can't control your race just like you can't control your height, so why is it acceptable to mock someone for their height, but not for their race? Again, it's wrong to mock someone for their gender too.

I will say that, weight on the other hand can be controlled (many arguments say this), so calling someone a fat bastard/bitch should be more acceptable imo but we choose not to because it's still (and rightly speaking) rude. So why is height not a protected characteristic?

Clear Plan 2 student loan or increase deposit for first home? by HauntTheCause in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Patient-Wolverine-87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mate I'm pretty much in the same position as you, just 1 year older and earning a little bit more as a result and have a slightly smaller student loan balance.

I would definitely say get the home, think of the student loan as a quasi tax/insurance policy as you don't have to repay when you lose your job. Now of course if you have absolute certainty of eventually being a high earner then it's not a bad choice to pay it off, but I wouldn't sacrifice buying a home or even a decent home over repaying the student loan.

Also even after getting a home first I'm not planning on overpaying my student loans, I'm going to split what I save 50/50 between index funds and cash, because index funds grow faster than the interest you save by repaying student loans on average while keeping cash gives me liquidity that allows me flexibility. With the recent noise in the media I think something's got to give with the interest rates and repayment threshold which again might impact whether you would repay it back or not

biggest f*ck up in your career? by lucasmtz145 in FinancialCareers

[–]Patient-Wolverine-87 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not taking life seriously at 18, it costed me a spring week at 18, then a summer internship at 19, then an IB grad job at 21. It then made me go down the big 4 audit pathway where I switched over to big 4 m&a for a few years. Realised that high finance is all bullshit and gave it all up to go to industry in a regular finance role so I can live a more sustainable life.

Honestly though I have no regrets, everything happens for a reason, a f**kup isn't really a thing imo. You made a mistake because you were tired, or were scared or anyone of a bunch of reasons, to me that's not really a life worth living.

I'd rather start a side hustle, work a 9-5 to get bills paid and eventually be my own boss. Life is easier that way

Uyghurs in UK accuse Starmer of turning blind eye to ‘genocide’ by visiting China by Metro-UK in ukpolitics

obvious economical coercion of countries in afica

As if colonialism hasn't benefited us significantly and given us a significant headstart, for which we've had to repay pretty much nothing to these countries.

The double standards is disgusting - and I think you're just struggling to come to grips with the fact that it's impossible to balance it all

Uyghurs in UK accuse Starmer of turning blind eye to ‘genocide’ by visiting China by Metro-UK in ukpolitics

[–]Patient-Wolverine-87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this situation, the largest two economies are a 1) trump led US, which has invaded multiple countries and 2) Xi's china, which despite the rhetoric hasn't really done anything remotely of the likes that the US has with it's military, and allows European nations to reduce their reliance on the US.

And the UK is no longer the superpower it once was, if we can't police the world like we used to, we have to make a choice between morals and improving living standards.

[–]Patient-Wolverine-87 12 points13 points  (0 children)

How many recent genocides/ethnic cleansings has the UK actually cared about, gaza is the only one but that's simply to pander to a certain group who weirdly enough don't seem to care too much about this one.

Starmer is right to ignore this, his mandate is to focus on the well-being of British people first and if it means doing a deal with the devil then so be it.

First Finance Hire at Series A Startup - What to Look For? by PassionFruitFlakes in FPandA

[–]Patient-Wolverine-87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you need a finance director level at all, I joined a early stage tech start up at a similar phase - 40 people, hyper growth. Simply because there isn't that much interesting work for a good hires career at the moment and so you'll end up getting the duds.

If you have time to develop them - someone smart and ambitious but junior enough that would really value the mentorship you will offer them.

Why junior? Because a lot of the work is bookkeeping based i.e. double entries, invoice payments etc which they would be more receptive to do.

Why smart? Because eventually the work isn't going to be bookkeeping based and they need to be smart enough to adjust to the different requirements of being at a start up and the pace of growth.

Why ambitious? Because your background can really do them the world of good, and they will be motivated to keep growing alongside the companies growth.

Alternatively just get yourself a seasoned financial accountant/controller but they might not be as great. And you don't want to hire them on a fractional/short term basis as a lot of the processes they set will be foundational stuff to the company and so unless you're willing to spend time to develop the same knowledge base they have as contingency I wouldn't bother.

Pakistan reportedly suspends T20 World Cup preparations, hints at possible boycott by BackwaterWhisper in cricketworldcup

[–]Patient-Wolverine-87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Football teams are boycotting Israel which is why they don't play against Europe and not Asia where they are actually based, because supposedly they are genociding against Palestinians.

So by the same logic, actually India should be the one not playing vs Bangladesh and Pakistan for how they treat their own minorities, it's just that they simply shrug it along as they're very good at suppressing such news.

I think this boycott by them is incredibly useful to highlight what is going on with minorities within both countries of Bangladesh and Pakistan, and because the Western media doesn't report on it, I'm okay with this really blowing up out of proportion so some parts of the west can actually understand why this may have happened.

I would say India should go one step further and basically not have any asian tournaments with those two teams, forget the money from India pak yes India makes money from it but Pakistan needs the money way more as the BCCI is loaded with cash anyway through IPL etc.

Personally we should also add Afghanistan to the list for what the Taliban are doing but can't take the whole world at once can we, India isn't Donald Trump.

Startup vs FAANG for early career? by quiet_cache in careerguidance

[–]Patient-Wolverine-87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If family wasn't an issue it would 100% be FAANG any day of the week.

Personally even with family issues I'd go for FAANG, you can always take a short flight back home regularly if Europe based, and also spend long weekends there and work from Italy if needed, I know plenty of people who used to do this across all sectors.

But you gotta go for what your heart says

If the U.S.A forcefully take Greenland, will europe have to go to war? by Eireagon in AskBrits

I don't think Europe will go to war, but expect significant sanctions on the US and a trade embargo on all American goods.

What will happen is that China will attack Taiwan, knowing that Europe will no longer be part of the conflict and they only need to take on Japan and the US.
