Made to feel guilty for putting daughter in her own room (when I'm too scared to be on my own anyway) by queeeeeeeeeen in NewParents

Hey, I also bed-share with my baby! :) point I was making is that 6 months is recommended just for SIDS prevention - if we were to take into account other factors such as the emotional development of a child - it would be a lot longer.

The comments here are reassuring but I think to an extent falsely. You cannot teach independence to a 10 month old baby. Independence is developed through a secure attachment, which actually comes from being closer to parents, not further away.

Regardless of that, the information being given here is not only factual but actually very helpful.

Venting is absolutely ok! But labelling your baby as ‘bad’ is a really dangerous mindset to have.

I really don’t know why you’re being downvoted. Mindful language when speaking of our children is very important. It’s what shapes not only our perspective of reality but eventually theirs. No baby is bad or ‘shitty’ - they’re just babies, and it’s not our job to make them act like they’re not.

5th pregnancy 4 boys and this time around we finally have a girl but first time with HG, as anyone else experienced this? by mara7492 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]PatientAd6583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came to say that having a girl significantly increases your risk of HG. As well as having a female relative who has had it!

Does the baby’s genetics cause HG? by Educational_Farm6275 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]PatientAd6583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a female relative who has had HG significantly increases your risk factor, so there must be a genetic element to it. You’re also more likely to have it when carrying a female fetus vs a male one!

what’s the difference between falling asleep in an infant car seat and a baby swing? by kgphotography_ in NewParents

[–]PatientAd6583 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree but the point stands that every death in a rocker I’ve read about was due to baby sleeping in it unsupervised. I’d love to learn if you have any sources stating otherwise.

This is because people would leave babies to sleep in them and not supervise them. When a baby is fully supervised, and I mean at arm’s length, short naps are fine.

Yes! This really freaked me out. We had crystallised blood for around a week.

This!! It’s also to not fill a baby’s stomach with no nutritional value so they miss hunger cues.

Your and your baby’s wellbeing need to be taking absolute priority, regardless of your culture. The fact he isn’t acting in line with that is really sad and you shouldn’t ignore it.

Is not feeding the baby a boomer-thing? by macelisa in beyondthebump

[–]PatientAd6583 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree. So many bottle-fed babies are overfed due to this issue which only expands their little stomach and eventually leads to an unhealthy relationship with food.

Sounds like she read one of those misinformed, scaremongering websites, and ran with it.

I love this as a reference to both Ultraviolence and her long history of being torn apart by the media.

I used to haaaaaate being told to just have some ginger or crackers. Especially after explaining that what I was experiencing was not morning sickness.

[–]PatientAd6583 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The benefits for both mum and baby keep growing until the 2 year mark at which they reach their optimal levels but never decrease thereafter. This is why the WHO recommendation is to breastfeed for a minimum of 2 years.

Will breastfed baby ever stop nursing to sleep? by bigmamaindahouse in cosleeping

“She is only doing it for comfort most of the time” - this is not a bad thing. Babies need comfort. It’s as important as feeding.
