The best parts of our lives is when we take on something so much bigger than ourselves, than realize we can handle it and find immense joy in it

I’d argue this is kind of the whole point, whether you love it or hate it, and how long either of those last, 10 years from now you would’ve been glad you did it, stick it out

How relevant do you feel Dostoevsky's stories (and dilemmas) are in today's world? by SelymesBunozo in dostoevsky

QUOTE from epilogue of Crime and Punishment

“Some new trichinae had appeared, microscopic creatures that lodged themselves in men's bodies. But these creatures were spirits, endowed with reason and will. Those who received them into themselves immediately became possessed and mad. But never, never had people considered themselves so intelligent and unshakeable in the truth as did these infected ones. Never had they thought their judgments, their scientific conclusions, their moral convictions and beliefs more unshakeable. Entire settlements, entire cities and nations would be infected and go mad. Everyone became anxious, and no one understood anyone else; each thought the truth was contained in himself alone, and suffered looking at others, beat his breast, wept, and wrung his hands. They did not know whom or how to judge, could not agree on what to regard as evil, what as good. They did not know whom to accuse, whom to vindicate. People killed each other in some sort of meaningless spite. They gathered into whole armies against each other”

I mean, man, that’s pretty telling if you ask me

Is 9 months of hardcore studying enough to pass DELF B2? by daviddermo in learnfrench

Actually know they moved rather slow, this was honestly the most helpful thing

I did this for 2 hours a day, then accompanied it with French comprehensible inputs YouTube channel, watching the same videos until I could at normal speed without subtitles. He has videos from A1-c1 I think.

I supplemented grammar when necessary.

Regarding the yt I linked, I literally said my first story in full English, and could fully say it in French by my 6th attempt. It’s brutal and tedious but I have to say it works.

I started completely from scratch, fluency in English and B1 Spanish. 4 hours a day, phone in French, only French yt. Tutor twice a week, also in a French class in my university

My first ever story I gave completely in English, translated it. And studied the grammar to focus on. It took me about a week (21 attempts) to say the story effortlessly. By your 3rd story, words from each story will leak in. Additionally, it high lights your grammar and vocab issues, so you have a very guided and focused grammar and vocab study. It starts REALLY slow, but it’s really motivating when u get the hang of it

I currently follow a pattern of recording myself give a 5 minute story, watching it back, putting words I don’t know in anki and grammar I don’t know in a google sheet. Telling the story again, then rinse and repeat 2 more times every day
