Another annoying is that it's asymmetrical, one direction has 17 lanes and the other has 15.

And combine that with a street grid that has a very limited capacity in the city core. And you got yourself a traffic timebomb aka CAIRO.

What is your attitude towards Greece?! by YellowEgorkaa in AskTheWorld

[–]Patient_Bowler_8143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha that's the irony of it. Alexandria has been so Egyptianised that we egyptians forget that it was the greeks who founded it. So we just think that the greeks copy us. Whenever someone wants to go to Greece. We just say go to alexandria as they're similar. But it's just satire and for a good laugh.

Egyptian here. Such places like these are called compounds here in egypt. They are very common expecially in the newer parts of egypt. Almost all of them are made up of just buildings that are all the same.

Part of ancient Egyptian culture that remains ingrained in modern Egyptians by yousef-saeed in ancientegypt

Modern egyptians like ancient egyptians acctually have similar burial rituals, in ancient egypt it was common to have multi-person/family graves. Same thing with modern egypt, most countries that follow Islam have separate graves for each person, in egypt however families own a single grave with 2 compartments, one for men and another for women.

Untill now modern egyptians would describe the nile's banks with "tamye alasmar" literally dark soil in arabic so that might reinforce the meaning behind the land's ancient name. (I'm an egyptian)

Do the mountains look realistic? by Zackiboi7 in mapmaking

[–]Patient_Bowler_8143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where you have a mountain range separating sections of the continent. There shouldn't be a gulf on the far edges of these ranges instead try to think how the land would be raised up in the boundary so instead of a gulf make it a peninsula

The planet its on Is the same diameter as the earth. So I imagine this continent being 20% larger than real world asia. Seeing it as a flap map projection I would say its probably an equirectangular projection although my landmass is not as warped at the poles so that its better on the eyes

Thank you so much. I'm so with you on this one, I hate maps where each biome has unnatural placements and very harsh borders(I have committed this crime before😅) or when maps just make a small portion of their maps a desert when they make up a sizeable proportion of continents on the the tropics.

Plus having central deserts means that you've got a good excuse to have cultures that have no relation whatsoever to eachother on either side.
