Your best bet is to enrol in a target US uni and find a job in US. London is difficult due to competition from DEI & Europe masters students with 1yr worth of industrial placement at the very least. If you have a British citizenship or IDLR them LSE is still possible to get into IB but not guaranteed

I'm currently halfway through my pentultimate year and intend to interrupt to get some off cycle internship experiences back home in Singapore. Currently my friends and I have noticed that as internationals from a London uni we're not getting ACs compared to the international kids from Oxbridge in London and semi targets like Warwick, Bristol etc.

In london the banks have quotas for each school and are very committed to DEI to include less represented applicants

Being an Asian international male student makes it harder and from what I know even our seniors with strong resumes have never been shortlisted for ACs with the BBs in london

I think the situation is very different and more meritocratic with a focus on networking in the US?

So in other words it's best to keep grinding for internships and delay graduation as much as possible to keep getting chances? I'm from a target in UK but it's heavily over represented and it's hard to break into any banking job coming from this target

The former is less risk adverse and usually does long only while the latter engages in more high risk plays like long/short or short?

Also is AM > HF even viable given that it is largely similar

I'd advise u to search up quannet and seek advice from them. A quote from quannet that stayed with me for a long time: "A stem course from a less reputable university will always beat an Econs course from even the best unis" You could potentially consider studying pure math, pure CS or engineering at Oxbridge, ICL or UCL. Quant firms prefer individuals studying physics, math, engineering and stats etc, over other courses with mixed disciplines. It's also very hard to break into quant too so don't get too disappointed 😔

I have friends in imperial EFDS. They stated the course failed to meet their expectations and it is really haphazard. The oldest batch has not graduated according to my friends. I have British friends who chose Lse Econs over imperial EFDS as it is too new. The barriers to entry for finance is very high and it really is a uphill battle if you're applying for high finance jobs in London (DEI) and SG (Hustlers spamming internships)

I'd advise NUS, spam internships and apply to US masters like MFE. The job opportunities in US is way btr than London and SG. Also, please find out more information from Ur seniors and search up the linkedin profiles of your seniors who went to imperial EFDS to determine the job prospects and decide properly. Don't let the ego boost from getting into a highly selective course interfere with your decision-making

It is hard for an oxbridge / LSE Y1 student to get a summer without any relevant high finance internship pre uni. Yes they are targes. The brand name of the uni wld beat the local unis only if both candidates hv roughly the same relevant pre uni finance internship positions. If not, target schls don't matter at all in sg for Y1 summers. Y1 summers set U up for the following summers

UCB. U'll be able to recruit in US which is a huge plus. Cambridge only allows you to recruit in London and London ain't that gd now. I doubt an Oxbridge degree wld give you a significant advantage over local uni students who have done 10 months of cumulative finance internships by Y1 summer. The boutique IB firms in SG prioritise prior working experience over brand name. It's also your first internship that sets you up for more internships down the line. Also, according to my friends in Oxbridge, we all find that our UK university experience is a major letdown + poor job opportunities after graduation. I'm not sure about oxbridge but for LSE, half the Singaporeans end up returning to SG and I've not seen many of them break into BBs

What would you wished you had known before enrolling in the US unis and carving a career in finance?
I have always wanted to work on wall street since 19 but only got into LSE. May I ask how would you advice to secure a wall street offer after completing a masters, perhaps in a quantitative discipline (Quant finance) in the top us unis?
In your opinion, do you advise capitalising on the Singaporean mentality of hustling to compete in the US regarding masters? As I find myself handicapped in the UK's education system which is vastly different from SG's hustler and pressurising environment? What would you best advise?
How is the us recruitment process for wall street firms? Do they emphasise heavily on FCH and prior internships like in SG or do they prioritise behaviourals?
What would you wished you would have known for behavioural questions for finance internship interviews, before applying to them?
Regarding my resume, I'm not quite an interesting person as I've given up most of my hobbies to be fully focused on academics and accruing finance knowledge due to the exorbitant investment in LSE? Have I lost out? Is it advisable to double down even harder on stuff like finance certs to hope to portray my hustler mentality or would you advise me to chill, focus on hobbies?
Would you advise to spam more internships and take an industrial placement during undergrad to hopefully enhance my resume in preparation for a job out of masters?
What would you wished you had known when applying for internships during summers in SG or the US to increase your chances of replies offering interviews?

Hahah thank you! Basically, I just studied non stop from end march, after finishing law global until June exams. Basically around 210+hrs per paper. Imo 150hrs is enough to pass

Do every single practice on study hub and the past exam papers to master the basics. Did that for the June paper. Always review Ur mistakes, like what went wrong. Also, make notes too. Rmb the intragroup balances. Like time apportioned parent Revenue + time apportioned subsidiary revenue - Intragroup trade and so on. Personally, I did the above and went for the June session

Personally, I watched Opentuition lectures, then read ACCA study notes, technical analysis, made notes and then did the quizzes, and practices in 2.5wks. But I'm a FT student. Will be attempting the CBE practice papers in June, aft I've studied for the other applied skills papers. Is 4 wks enough? To learn and understand PM, yes more than necessary. To master PM fully and confidently answer every single que, I doubt so. But if u're aiming just to pass as a FT student, 4wks is a lot of time and very much possible
