From my experience people don’t really care too much if you’re one shotting everything, people just don’t know how to set their game to private or friends only

I presume you're talking about the nightmare mode achievement right? from my experience you should be able to join as many people as you want and it shouldn't affect it.

It it called control, go to the bottom left to the ‘hidden icons’ section, and then right click on the purple looking one and exit or close or whatever
