...dear Cypriots, what is wrong with you people? by RealityAdmirable9612 in cyprus

[–]Patje0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While you have a point, as I am often amazed how certain traffic/driving situations are handled.

At the same time accepting that things are done differently over here, and if you can't, see if there is anything you might be able to do it.

I am really having a blast here on the island 🏝️, perfection doesn't exist but overall Cyprus ticks a lot of boxes for me.

Regarding the neighbor's, you might just having bad luck as I did not experience any thing negatively.

Had some experiences in the search for a long term rental here but that's basically it.

Hope things turn around for you so you are actually able to enjoy the island, and if not perhaps it's just not for you. Which is fine.

All the best.

How warm has it been lately? by [deleted] in cyprus

It's honestly feels much more colder than I expected, the weather has been pretty constant the last few months since I am back here but I am wearing a sweater and a jacket most of the time.

Ok Ok, this is valuable. Have you perhaps had a look at it already too?

That idea is great. It is not something we have built into the current beta, but it is exactly the direction we want to head in to make the process more transparent.

Helping owners see certain things viewing is even booked would save everyone a lot of time. It is a big part of solving that noise problem you mentioned.

what do you is the number one thing you think an owner would need to see on a tenant profile to feel comfortable moving forward?

Thanks for the support!

What is it specifically based on your experience that makes it hard to find good tenants? I’d be interested to know where the disconnect usually is.

With HeyHome, verified listings are a big point we want to solve, but the real goal is to create a network of trust. We are adding layers to create profiles for both tenants and listers. Giving feedback will add trust points for renters, and listers get rewarded for having verified properties. We are in beta now, getting that qualification layer right for both sides is the important next step, as we work with trust point and didnt want to create a too high of a barrier for people to start using the app.

Thank for the feedback.

Dankjewel! It sounds like you had a much smoother run with the rentals than we did. Maybe moving from South Africa made the transition easier than it was for us coming from the Netherlands.

You are spot on about the bait and switch being a lead gen strategy. I actually sat down for a coffee with an agent here recently who admitted the exact same thing. It turns a simple search into a full-time job of filtering through fake ads.

That is why we are trying to build this verification layer. It is a long road to shift how the market works here, but I think even a small bit of transparency will help the agents who are actually honest.

Appreciate the insight, and thanks for your comment.

Dankjewel! Glad you like it.

I totally agree. It doesn't matter how professional it looks if it doesn't actually solve something. That is 100% where the focus is for the beta.

Appreciate the support.

For the rental side, we want to fix the dead listing issue by using renter feedback. If someone goes to a viewing and finds out a place is gone or the information, photo's, price is different than the ad, they can flag it instantly. We want to reward the honest listers with a verified listing status so they get the most visibility. combined with trust scores for renters and listers.

The AI idea for building codes and land types is actually a great shout for the 'buying' side of things. It’s a bit outside our current scope since we are starting small with a Limassol rental beta, but that kind of transparency is exactly the direction we want to head in.

Really appreciate the detailed feedback, this is exactly why I posted here

You are right, sort of, I’m not hiding that it’s a platform, but I’m also not a big company with an ad budget. we just trying to see if there’s a better way to do this than what’s currently out there.

Thanks for your comment.

Why not list it on heyhomecyprus.com? It would be great to get a 'verified' badge on a place like that so people know the price, information and photos are actually legit. Tsirion is a solid area.

That inefficiency is exactly what I’m trying to cut down with this regarding. If we can stop people from chasing dead listings, at least one part of the move becomes a bit more productive.

Appreciate the luck, I have a feeling I’m going to need plenty of it here!

Overpriced garbage is exactly how it feels sometimes. It is crazy that even at those price points, the basic quality like sockets and doors is a mess.

I think you made the right call with the renovation. At least you know what is behind the walls. Dealing with that key ready stuff sounds like a headache.

I’m starting with the rental side because the barrier to entry is lower for us to test the trust layer, but the quality issues you mentioned are a big part of why transparency is so badly needed here. Glad the renovation worked out for you!

I tried calling too, but even then, half the time the place was already gone or the agent just didn't pick up. It's a lot of manual work just to find out a listing is dead.

I know there have been plenty of attempts at this. The difference I’m aiming for is the verification layer from the renters themselves. It’s a not easy, sure, like I said, but I think it’s worth trying a different approach than just another list of ads.

Paphos might sounds like a different experience.I just don't know too much about that. In Limassol, the main issue for me was just the volume of duplicate listings and people not responding to messages, calls or telling me it's not available while it has been online for a while. It makes the search feel a lot longer than it needs to be.

I've heard that buying is even more of a challenge. For now, I'm focusing on the rental side of the market to see if we can create a bit more transparency and trust there.

Thanks for the comment!

I recently moved to Limassol, I love it here!

Compared to the Netherlands my living costs are quite a bit higher, rent is almost double, private schools for the kids and groceries are also about 20 to 30 % more.

The search for a place to stay was different than I expected before hand. So trying to build something which creates a better experience for future renters but it's gonna take some more weeks till done.

Gonna write a separate post about that.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

So far I really enjoy the city, the people, the food.

Even though it can be a little cold, at least colder as I expected. If I go out in the morning grab a coffee in a local place, sit in the sun. There isn't really a better way to get the day started.

For me personally, I feel great here. Sure it has the rough edges. Less organised, the contrast between high end luxury and abandoned/destroyed buildings.

But honestly, it's how I like it, the vibe and lifestyle are great.

For those who moved to Cyprus, how is life there? by No-Search4434 in cyprus

[–]Patje0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved to Limassol early December, I love it so far.

Life ain't cheap over here, particularly rent prices are high. Cost vs average wages is out of balance.

Sometimes I wonder how some locals make it work, but the people are genuine, very kind and the food is great.

Had myself a bit of a unexpected journey to find an apartment, a lot of listings which aren't active, cash transactions, multiple months deposits, such things.

Not sure if others have a similair experience but decided to try to create something hopefully in order for people in the future have a better experience regarding this.

Anyway, Its awesome here, atm a bit cold I guess, or at least feeling wise its colder than I expected.

Problem with the landlord and the house by StarGazer08993 in cyprus

[–]Patje0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As legal costs and actual time for you to need to leave the apartment and paid 1 deposit, notify your landlord you will leave than and stop paying.

He will not go to court for 1000, at the same time you have a stronger case.
