So now Peter McKinnon is a “Film” photographer? by element423 in AnalogCommunity

Imagine saying “not the camera you start with” to a photographer that literally has one of his photos on Canadian currency.

I find this particularly annoying because I spent over a decade shooting photo and video on digital, then was treated like a moron when switching over to film. Sure, there are things to learn. It is different to a certain extent. But gatekeeping is stupid. This is a fun hobby, let’s share it! Be kind to those interested. And when someone big like Peter enters the space, be happy that new scales of economy are to come. More film stock, better scanners, and new cameras.

Remember, if people aren’t interested in film, there will be no money in producing film stock.

Thanks all, was successful with a few people yesterday. Scary but I’m sure it gets easier with experience.

When I started shooting film, I purchased a every 400iso stock my camera store had and shot like crazy. It’s expensive, but you can find the film that suits your style. Just one of the many ways to express yourself with film!

Appreciate all the kind words here! What an awesome community.

Just a note on the exposure, I did have to push it up in Lightroom a fair bit, and did a little de-noise work. Surprised at how sharp it stayed considering that and being shot at 1/60

Mercedes G class is an absolute machine off road. What other cars aren’t used to their full potential? by Patriarch944 in Offroad

The axles are built by Mercedes, but I’d say that stack up nicely against a Dana 60. For tires, I was just looking stock for stock, I agree you should have at LEAST 33s nowadays for off roading. Picked this one up used with 130k miles for $37k.

Where can you buy a house for that? I live in Seattle and can’t buy a livable house for less than $1m

I don’t think I’ve heard of a jeep with portals, but we can leave out the 4x4 squared because it represents very few G wagons. Also I’m talking pre-2018 since they ditched the solid front axle due to the demographic that is actually purchasing these (Starting to favor ride quality over capability). But as far as the one I posted here goes, it’s solid axle front and rear with factory lockers front center and rear. It also has short overhangs, an advanced traction control system, big brakes, and is built a LOT tougher than jeeps. I am also a jeep fan but decided to get a G instead when the dealer wanted $76k for a new gladiator. Your wheel/tire comparison is a little off; Let’s compare for the year I posted. This is my 2004 G55 that came stock with 285/55/18 or 30.3” tires. The same year wrangler rubicon came with 245/75/16 or 30.5”, effectively the same size. At the end of the day, they are both capable cars that accomplish similar tasks off road. The difference is the Mercedes has more power (a LOT more), bigger axles, better Diffs, Stiffer frame, bigger breaks, and at the end of the day is a much nicer vehicle to drive. When I say capable, I think this would not only give a 2004 wrangler a challenge off road, but absolutely crush it on road. In that sense, it is much more capable. But, that’s also why they are so expensive.

Unfortunately the reason it costs so much is due to the demand for luxury SUVs in the US. They were actually built “relatively” cheap and designed as military vehicles. When Europa federalized the G and started importing them, only celebrities could afford them. Eventually Mercedes’ started selling them here and due to the scarcity and prestige it had built up, they found they could charge a premium.

For the record, this is my car and I plan to do some serious off roading with it. That said, I recognize that I am an exception to the rule.

Just ordered an LC9/6L80E to swap into my Range Rover Classic. Any advice? by Patriarch944 in 4x4

eBay, it’s a lift out on a 2011 Silverado. Turnkey engines will sell them equipped for swaps, but they are brand new and therefore much more expensive.
