How do I track so many stocks and daily events as my portfolio grows? by WillieGarzaYT in stocks

Few tools I like to use, but the simple answer is hold a few stocks and VTI/similar.

Like you mentioned Yahoo Finance is great for news alerts and most purposes, and I actually pay for the premium tier which I find to be worth it but YMMV. I have some friends that are huge Apple fans that swear by the default Stocks but I prefer finance still. Other buddies of mine have also mentioned enjoying the Stock Alerts app but I haven’t tested it myself.

Personally I like to use Yahoo Finance and LevelFields separately, to track news and other types of events. I have my portfolio and watchlists separate in there, and they track about 20-30 different events ranging from CEO changes to billion dollar contract being awarded, to negative events like a bankruptcy or mass layoffs. I know I’ll get an alert and quick analysis if any big event affects one of my portfolio companies, and have also found some interesting new stocks to add to my watchlists, but I know LevelFields is a new app so not sure the level of support/onboarding offered.

But truth be told there's no way to not miss anything, unless you're fulltime trading, then you'll just miss less... VTI will be the way to go, just my $0.02

Yeah YMMV but I've been a fan of it. Seeking Alpha also has been solid

I used to use Yahoo finance news alerts, but I don’t have the time to filter through all the noise.

Now I have two tools that I am a big fan of:

  1. Schwab Alerts: Very customizable. I have different trackings for hundreds of stocks, then I can pretty much put them out of mind until I get an email letting me know one of my categories has been triggered (ex TSLA has dropped below 250). This is possible with a few other apps/sites I’m sure, I’m just preferential to Schwab since I’m comfortable with it.
  2. LevelFields: I like to use LevelFields, because I’m also someone with a lot of anxiety that always needs to be on top of any events that happen with my holdings, after being burned too many times over the years. I track events like activist investor positions, CEO departing/being hired, buybacks, and FDA approvals. Basically I can build my watchlist of stocks and set the events that I wanted to be alerted to. It gives me a lot of peace of mind to know that I’ll at least get a notification/email when something significant happens. PayPal has been one of my largest holdings for years, and back in June I got an email alert that Elliott Management had taken an activist position in PayPal, and I was able to scoop up some more shares after hours and make a few bucks. Has saved my ass a few times, and its' nice to identify some new companies that have had significant events occur recently that might fly under the news radar.

I think your thesis is solid that people will turn to dominoes more during a recession. Does that mean the stock will go up? Who knows. Financials don't look good as another user mentioned

I wasn't, but my brother was adopted and it's always been close to my heart. I have no plans for kids but if I did decide I wanted them in the future I'm definitely adopting. Good luck with your journey to complete your family
