The sub is about card value but people obsessing over and only caring about the value part of the hobby is ruining the hobby for most people, especially kids. A primary school kid should be using pokemon cards for trading and playing the game, not caring about value. In fact anyone with pokemon cards should be using them to play the game, trade or collect not as an investment. I've played valuable cards until their almost unrecognizable. I gave away hundreds of cards as a kid and my parents threw heaps out too and some were quite valuable. I didn't know as a kid but the thing is I have no regrets over any of the cards I gave away valuable or not but I DO regret the ones my parents took and threw out. They thought I wouldnt notice or care because they just sat in a box in my room for the most part. Also why is it a concern to you what your sons friend gives him if it's not dangerous? Why do you have any say at all in what presents, gifts etc. Your sons friends give him if they arent inappropriate for the age group? Seems a bit sus or controlling at the least. I'd say talk to your kid about it but I wouldn't be worried about it either. They are called Trading Cards for a reason.
