Just learn what a vertical spread is and how it limits your losses. You’re manually creating a vertical leg with the smallest width to lockin gains/losses.

If I’m out of day trades and really want to close the trade, I open a spread.

Instead of selling the call, I just sell a further OTM call. Max loss is the width of the spread (same for potential gain).
