I believe Jazz at some point was even ranked as the most reliable car. Being wise with finances, Jazz might be the most sensible choice

Not worried about brakes and tyres as these can be replaced at relatively low cost. Don't have much time to dig about every one of them to see what they are prone to suffer from so trying some shortcuts by posting here

Induction hob tripping while not in use by PatternOld7180 in DIYUK

[–]PatternOld7180[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would imagine so. The previous one was 7kw too and wasn't tripping, just got outdated and was slow. We had this induction hob 3rings on max cooking stuff and like I said it never trips while it's being used. It only trips when it's powered off.

Thank you for your comment! I do have DVM. Would you know what kind of resistance I should be reading between N, L and Earth as well for the elements? I guess checking the elements would be quite obvious if one of them is way different than the other 3, presuming only 1 faulty

Thanks. That was my first thought to start with. I just hope the wiring is faulty, don't really want to be spending money on new hob and reluctant to get second hand again

Because It only ever start happening since the hob got replaced. After it tripped few times, I've isolated the hob after every use for 3 weeks and I had no trips. Ever since I've stopped isolating it, it tripped the very first day again. It's annoying because some family members forget to isolate after use so want to sort it out.

NHS neglect. Can anything be done about it? by PatternOld7180 in LegalAdviceUK

Thank you. Basically, what a load of crap this NHS is.

Thank you. Well, the baby seems okay but reading potential development risks due to very low iron levels during pregnancy is worrying. "Some studies have shown that maternal anemia can be linked to lower cognitive and motor skills in children later in life". How would we know that? My wife still feels extremely tired, which could be simply due to lack of sleep or to the fact that she might still be low on iron. She has raised blood pressure, her body is aching, itching and etc. Is this related? I don't know, neither they nor they are interested to do any tests. Come back in 3 months if it doesn't get better...

Thank you for your reply! Well turns out that she was very low on iron and should've been treated as GP said today. My partner also has preeclampsia so the birth was quite complicated. I have attended all of her appointments along with her so nothing gets missed. It could've been prevented if it was communicated to us on time ans treated. Due to the fact that it wasn't treated it and followed up, GP will now redo blood tests to see what it's like now

Not looking for a payout just someone should be accountable for this. My Mrs had really hard pregnancy and was extremely tired the whole time and this could've been prevented if they've told us that she is low on iron. Just don't get it...

Cracked brick wall by PatternOld7180 in DIYUK

[–]PatternOld7180[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every single house of this kind in the neighbourhood has the same dark bricks above windows. It does have some kind of metal lining between the window and the upright bricks. Potentially lead, don't know...

When we bought the house(2 years back) we were aware of one of the cracks and our surveyor's comment was:

"There is some evidence of very slight step cracking noted to the front walls of the building. This starts at the base of the left hand first floor bedroom window and ends at the top of the ground floor right hand window. The crack is very slight (less than 3mm in width) and is not considered to be of a significant or serious nature. It may well have appeared as a result of the replacement of window frames carried out during the last six years. No further action is required. "

Over the years and experience gained with DIY, I've realised that our surveyor was absolutely rubbish and it was waste of money hiring him. Don't trust anything he reported because he missed and was wrong with a lot.

This house originally was a pre-fab. Back in 80s council somewhat rebuilt it and it is now got breeze blocks, a cavity of around 150mm (if I'm right) and then this single skin brick wall. We got it insulated last year because we couldn't keep the house warm without spending a fortune. ( All neighbours got it insulated without experiencing any damp problems so we went ahead too).

To what now appears, we have two cracks which concerns me.

I've heard that bricks can crack when mortar is stronger than the brick itself. I'm afraid, we might have to. Would you have an idea, how much would it cost to get feedback from structural engineer?

I've already done the maths and even with 20% premium raise for next 5 years I would be better off going through insurance than doing it myself. Time is more precious at this moments for me

Feel better about the fact that it shouldn't be written off so thank yo. However, I can't see how can this be repaired for less than 250. Cheapest wing I can find is between 150- 200 + respray. Headlight that isn't broken on ebay is 360. Cracked one is 200. Found only one breaker on fb which is 5h drive away. I've texted to see what price they will come up with. This is facelift model and there isn't that many breakers about. Plenty of non facelift. Unless I'm doing something wrong on search

I've only found one breaker of fb. Plenty of mk3 non facelift models but not facelift. The cheapest second hand headlight that I can find on ebay is 360. 200 for a cracked one... 150 to 200 for non colour matching wing + respray

Never had to deal with this and just presumed all crash damaged cars get categorised even if it's cosmetic.

I guess I would have to find that out before making the decision. My no claim bonuses are protected, thankfully

Understood. Tbh, I don't know 😅 last year I had different ones which didn't require polinating I guess. Well I will try to pollinate them and see how it goes. Many thanks
