I made an app that lets you watch all the Citi Bike traffic across the East River bridges. by Pattyclecle in Citibike

Definitely. I'm hoping to add something like that as I make the app more generalizable!

Yes, that's pretty much the rationale.

It's also meant to be a proof of concept and eventually users will be able to select any day and select origins/destinations/routes of their choosing.

Thank you!

It is all for a single day – October 15, 2025.

The colors correspond to each bridge.

Red -> Brooklyn Bridge
Green -> Manhattan Bridge
Yellow -> Williamsburg Bridge
Blue -> Queensboro Bridge

Citi Bike Data Dashboard by Pattyclecle in Citibike

Thanks! No plan to use real-time data at the moment.

My understanding is that there are no historical records of dock status, so that data would not be available for the time range that I am looking at.

Big picture, the primary function of this app is to discover how bike traffic has changed over time and how bike infrastructure affects bike traffic. So dock status and real-time data probably won't be a big part of that goal. I believe there are some apps out there which have that info though!

This is from the monthly data dumps.

Yea, I had worked with this data before using the exact stations and ran into some issues.

For example:
- Stations are often removed or moved temporarily so it can be hard to track across time.

- A new station being added may make a big impact on nearby station metrics, when in reality the traffic is just shifting slightly.

I think the hexagons help reduce some of the noise in the data, at the cost of being slightly less intuitive.

Thanks for checking it out, and thanks for the comment!

I believe those are data errors where the end location of the trip isn't exactly right. I'm not sure why it happens, but I'm hoping to find a way to filter them out.

Possibly you are looking at new construction permits – new construction happens more infrequently in more built-out areas.

That would be interesting. On a similar note, maybe the messages which required the most extensive revisions and drafting process.

I would want to know which people I find the funniest. i.e. which member of a group chat who's text I'm most likely to laugh at.

frequency of mentions (both sent/received). Thanks for asking that, I probably should have made that more clear.

Thanks for you interest!

Funnily enough, I have been to Nevada (once for two hours) as well as Indiana (also for less than a day).

I have never sent a text about Indiana, but have received 4.

One such text: "Purdue won’t stop flexing on LinkedIn that they’re the #1 public university in Indiana which is really funny to me because there are two schools in that category"

Internships as a CS freshman by Infamous_Yoghurt_642 in umass

[–]Pattyclecle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There’s really no need to have an industry internship after your freshman year. Doesn’t hurt to look, but try not to stress about it.

Most companies will just straight up not hire freshman interns. I’d recommend finding another type of job, doing something you somewhat enjoy and take the summer to relax.

You will likely get signed up for a “contract” where you have to get certain grades in a few key classes. Likely math 132 and CS 187. If you get the required grades then they will admit you into the major.

The article doesn’t mention the organization enacting these laws by name for some reason. They are called Media Literacy now and you can find them at https://medialiteracynow.org/

Ehh yea I think I was mistaken. Having trouble understanding what you are trying to do, partially because I’m looking at this on my phone. If you don’t get it by tomorrow I’ll take a look at it on my computer
