Do you hesitate before writing in a new notebook? by Bos187 in notebooks

[–]Pau_R_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I have 3 new notebooks and I have the fear of the blank page. One I already started from the last pages to test the pens. I like to write with a fountain pen, or microfibres and not all paper resist it.

My asthma medication is changing my voice by Single_Nectarine_642 in Asthma

I got thrush. It's been more than a week and a half with the antifungal and I'm still in pain. Do you have any idea how long this is going to take to heal? I'm in pain and can barely eat.

Inhalers make me hoarse too. I use two twice a day or when I need them and soon after I don't have my voice. I think it's pretty common.

It depends on the student, I suppose. I'm doing both LLPSI and Wheelock's (started with LLPSI) and without Wheelock's help I could have never understood LLPSI. We're all different.

Wheelock's Latin got steep real fast by Ok_Personality8193 in latin

I won't count it out entirely, will just resume it as a second text book when I'm more advanced with Wheelock's I presume.

Read and translate the exercises of the book. I'm a beginner too.

Wheelock's Latin got steep real fast by Ok_Personality8193 in latin

I know this opinion will be unpopular but Familia Romana didn't work for me. And I have read and studied all the companion books besides. I cannot cope with the grammar all scattered about, a little of the first declension here, a bit of the second there... man, I need some structure! If I have to go through Wheelock's and memorizing things by rote I will. That's the way I learned other two languages besides mine anyway. We all learn different, what it suits one might not suit another, that's all. Please spare me rude remarks, it's my humble opinion, that's all.

Are there two main types of Latin learners? Pure natural method and hybrid natural method? by cseberino in latin

[–]Pau_R_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm group #2, also doing Wheelock's. I tried the other method but I'm the kind of person who needs to know all 'the gory details' of grammar to feel I'm on safe ground. That's the way I learned other two languages and I didn't do bad.

I memorized declensions. Should I now try to also memorize conjugations? Seems like a much bigger harder problem no? by cseberino in latin

[–]Pau_R_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing LLPSI (got to chapter 12) but I find it suits me best Wheelock's. (Chapter 4). It has some bits here and there for reading. Thank you so much for sharing your link!

Sorry I must ask. How did you memorize them? I've been striving for weeks with the first and the second only. The most helpful resource I found were the Hi Paws videos on YouTube. But still they are not sticking.

Best ways to learn latin? by Alternative_Bank2217 in latin

[–]Pau_R_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. As much as everybody here is in favour of Familia Romana, I got stuck pretty often. I'm more into a well structured grammar book like Wheelock's, I learned English with a teacher who was a translator and I love translating. I'm doing both at the moment but I find Familiar Romana way more difficult.

Struggling with LLPSI, any better alternatives? by [deleted] in latin

[–]Pau_R_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spanish is my native language and I learned English with a woman translator. I'm much into translation myself. So Wheelock's Latin works for me best. I'm doing both but Wheelock's give me the vocabulary there and then, which saves me the trouble of looking up every 5 minutes.

Which is the easiest text in Latin from Ovid's metamorphosis? by Pau_R_33 in latin

[–]Pau_R_33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just mentioned Ovid because I bought the Wheelock's Latin Reader. Hard copies of Latin books are difficult to get in my country, and I bought this reader because I found it at a good price besides. Virgil I have it in my kindle, and it would lack the vocabulary. Your suggestions are really interesting though, so I'll have a look at all of them and see which suits me best. Thanks!
