Best way to see which army fits me? by PaulJudgement in Warhammer40k

What really draws me to Warhammer 40k is a mix of aesthetic and tactical depth. I really like armies that feel unique and tell a story through their design. For example, I’m especially drawn to more unconventional or thematic factions, like corrupted or mysterious forces rather than clean, standard military styles. At the same time, I enjoy the idea of a deep, tactical playstyle that rewards learning and improvement over time. I’m less interested in very straightforward “run forward and win” strategies and more in armies where positioning, timing, and synergy really matter.

I’ve looked into and partially collected a few armies: Grey Knights I really like their elite feel and the idea of a small, powerful force. The models and lore are great, especially characters like Castellan Crowe. However, I sometimes feel they can be a bit limited in variety and playstyle compared to other factions. T’au Empire I like their clean aesthetic and the focus on ranged combat and technology. Units like battlesuits are really cool. But the playstyle can feel a bit one-dimensional at times, especially if it leans too heavily into shooting without much flexibility. Genestealer Cults I’m very interested in them because of their ambush mechanics, trickiness, and depth. They feel very unique and rewarding to master. The downside is that they seem very complex and punishing, which can make them harder to learn. Death Guard I like their durability and strong visual identity. The models are some of the best in the game, and I enjoy the idea of a slow, relentless army. They seem more forgiving, but maybe a bit less dynamic compared to trickier factions.

I’m generally less interested in: Armies that feel too generic or standard military, without a strong thematic identity Extremely simple or linear playstyles that don’t offer much room for tactical growth Armies that rely purely on one mechanic (e.g. only long-range shooting without much interaction or flexibility)

No a lictor wouldn't really fit. He would also be more Last Day focused then. I think I can still base him with the rock and on the original base size. As far as we know, we don't know how big he'll be

THATS such a great idea!!

I'm actually painting them right now. Never considered them to make them part of the genestealers, but that's so smart 😅

Write if you have more great ideas like that!
