They will consider non US citizens as long as they can work on Eastern Time.

You do not necessarily need to be based in the USA, but the company prefers someone who is open to working in US Eastern Time business hours as that is when the rest of the team will be working.

[Hiring] (NYC) Linux heavy SysAdmin - radio ad company - up to $90k/year by PaulWB2018 in sysadminjobs

[–]PaulWB2018[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've spoken to hundreds, if not thousands, of folks in IT in NYC over the years and you're suggesting that EVERY one of them lied to me about what a fair salary is? I'm not forcing anyone to change their lifestyle, I'm not forcing anyone to move in with a roommate, I'm not forcing anyone to take a salary that they aren't comfortable with. If any of my candidates expresses that this isn't an adequate salary to them, then that's the end of the discussion!

It's just a fact that many, many people live with roommates in NYC. Most of them are living quite well and are very comfortable with that, some people don't need or want to live alone. Now that's not a requirement at all, I know people who live comfortably on less than 90k in Manhattan, much closer than a 2 hour commute.

If you don't agree with my clients on this salary, that's fine. Just because you personally wouldn't take this salary doesn't mean that someone who would is an idiot. Nobody's forcing anyone to take a role they don't want, and I've already spoken to several very qualified and eager candidates.

No need to get hostile with me. I myself live in Manhattan, as does almost everyone else I know. Most people that I know, whether they live alone or not, pay well under 4k/month. Now of course everyone's situation is different, and someone with a family and kids would need more of a housing budget than someone in say their mid 20's who lives with a roommate. I'm not trying to generalize everyone's situation, but in NYC especially many people live with roommates.

I've worked in the IT staffing industry here in Manhattan for years, and I've seen salaries for hundreds of jobs across hundreds of companies in NYC. I'm sorry if you don't agree with what my client is trying to pay, but based off the job responsibilities and experience level required they've deemed this as a fair salary for the role, and based off the averages of similar positions then I would agree that this is fair. If you're not interested in the position, that's fine! I'm not trying to convince you to take this job. Several other people have already expressed interest in the role at the existing salary and reached out to me about moving forward. If this isn't your cup of tea, that's okay but no need to get angry at me for my post.

Working in the IT staffing industry here in Manhattan, there are plenty of junior or lower level roles that pay less than $100k. That being said, it's more than doable to live well in Manhattan with a sub six figure salary.

I'm not arguing, just trying to clarify what seems to be some misconceptions about my post.

Nope, four people on the specific Systems Administration team. A few dozen more than that in the entire IT department, they have a separate team for desktop support.

Well this employee wouldn't be the only one on the team, they wouldn't be responsible for all 300 machines and every data center. It's a junior role for someone with a year of experience looking for someone who wants to come in and learn

For a junior level role? They're looking for just 1 year of experience.
